Omg I've just had a letter off Halifax CC saying they need a drs note to verify i'm signed off with depression!!!and Barclays have passed my debt over to Mercers DCA.It looks like they're completely ignoring the fact I can't afford to pay more than a token payment per month, and am on benefits:mad:  Any advice?

  • Hopefully thats the setting up bit done now. I contated payplan first who i actually found quite unhelpful. They insisted that i stick to their budget which showed a deficit and suggested that i should only make token payments. When i pointed out that when all my bills etc are paid i have over the minimum amount available to do a dmp he said you dont according to our budget. Its a bit daft to be penalised for not spending £400 a month on household items. And so i went to CCCS who were much more helpful and agreed that i could do a dmp. Unlike payplan tho they want proof of EVERYTHING including tax credits. I sent a bank statement fo my proof of tax credits although it shows an overdraft which is now paid hopefully this wont cause any problems. They have also said i cant delay my dmp for 2 months, has anyone else done this? We have a couple of large household bills to pay and honestly dont know if a 1 month delay is enough to cover them. Has anyone else had them agree to a 2 month delay? Sorry for rambling!

  • Hi princess of plastic I received the paperwork from CCCS in January and my first payment to my dmp is not until 1st March - I put a note on the agreement when I sent it back to them saying please could I start it in March - a few days after posting it - I telephoned CCCS and they said they had received paperwork and March starting date was fine.
DMP starting 1/3/09 - thanks to CCCS & MSE
I am now proud to be dealing with my debts!
Big thanks to everyone on the DMP Mutual Support Thread
your support has inspired me to get this sorted once and for all xx

Hi candygirl - firstly dont worry about the barclays debt being passed over to a DCA apparently dca's are much more likely to hold interest charges etc. With regards to halifax - are you going to start a dmp or just making token payments for a bit - if you are going onto a dmp then the dmp will ask for proof of income so they will write to the halifax otherwise if you are not doing a DMP perhaps it might be worth sending them a copy of your benefits - but I certainly wouldnt go to my doctors for a letter as they charge you.

    good luck

thanks, they are saying that they can only delay it 1 month for some reason. I have sent them a letter explaining that i have already informed my creditors of a 2 month delay and am now keeping my fingers crossed

Payplan havent asked me for proof of anything other than most recent creditors statments.
They have said once the dmp is in full swing with them and if any creditors ask for proof of income ,then they may have to ask me for wages slips or bank statments ect.
Although after 3 yrs of being on a dmp with another company iv never sent proof of income to anyone.

I think the reason they allow you more than you think you need eg household shopping is because on goverment guildlines they have to allocate you a amount between £-£ as other wise they are not truly reflecting what the goverment say you need to live, you must have a certain amount left over after these figures or a dmp wouldnt be the right route for you.
I think you have to have at least £100 clear a month to put into a dmp or the guild lines would not be ment and payplan would be seen to be misadvising you.

I may not be right with that but im sure thats the way it works.

  • yes, i understand that but everyones budget is different. I do have over £100 spare after my budget. Just not payplans.

When you say everyones budget is different do you mean you spend alot less than what payplan say you will eg they allow £300 for shopping a month but you only spend £200???

If this is the case this is the same as me im allowed £675 a month for 6 of us for food and spend about half of that, i cant lower this and add the spare cash to my dmp payment as this is what they say i need to live on. So the extra money which i dont spend on food goes into an emergency fund.

In theroy on my budget i could double my dmp payments each month..but i stick to the payment of £381 a month( which is what payplan say i have spare) in the knowledge that the creditors are happy and can build up my savings possibly for full and final offers.

  • Hi everyone and welcome to TRMD

TRMD you are so in the RIGHT place now that you have joined this thread! I joined less than 2 weeks ago and I feel and sound like a completely different person, and that is down to the support I have been given from these guys, in particular DLB and MNM!

We are just about to start a DMP with CCCS and are going to make our first payment in April.:j

I contacted both Payplan and CCCS and decided to go with CCCS purely because I felt more confident after my call with them, rather than my call with Payplan. However, I know that many on here use Payplan and really rate them, so I guess it's just a preference thing!

With regards to the monthly budgets etc, I found that CCCS broke everything down individually and gave you a budget for each item eg. sports/hobbies/ prescriptions, whereas Payplan, although they ask you for what you would spend on each, actually amalgamated it into my Groceries etc budget, thus appearing that I would be getting a bigger budget for Food etc, although that was not the case!

    Enjoy your weekend guys

    MD xx
Finally brave enough to deal with my debts! :D
