Thankyou Devongirl and Daffy, finally called CCCS and they couldn't have been nicer, put up with my snivelling and sniffing, advised to send reduced payments this month and sit tight for creditors response but if they get too nasty and upset me too much to put down the 'phone...!Think the lovely CCCS lady deserves a medal for her patience and also put a note on my file that reduced payments due to family illness and bereavement hence unpaid leave etc...Feel lots better now. Think is just the feeling of 2 steps forward, 1 step back that gets to me,just want to be on an even keel;in fact, I want a little pot of money that I can take out at the start of the month and then not go near the bank again, just knowing that that is it. Just need to perfect greedy little scrooge expression and knit some fingerless gloves to go with my pot of pennies..!And have been trying to catch up with 2 month's worth of posts-impossible-but have noticed the odd gripe re tax credits;me too!!Still not had renewal pack, apparently should receive by 20th June, but am convinced they know when they have underpaid me and are leaving me till last....miseries!
It is lovely to see how well people are getting on with their dmps-how is your file Stolli?!x;)
Hi Penny, sorry to read of the crisis you've been through and really pleased to see you are getting through it all. It's really horrible when you get a set back just as you think you are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Aren't mum's great? Mine has been fantastic although to be honest I've not told her the extent of my problems but she does understand that things have changed for me and I can no longer afford what I used to. Saying that I could never afford those things and that's why I'm hear now! :rotfl:
My fil3 is doing very well at the moment. Have just received a lovely letter today to file! It was from NatWest agreeing to repay £78 pounds of CC charges! That's in addition to the MBNA and Halifax charges I've claimed back! :T
I really can't say how easy the reclaiming process has been and would encourage any of you how are thinking whether to give it a go or not to just do it! It only takes a tiny bit of effort and a few letters so just go for it!
Just off to get my monthly indulgance treat of a chinese takeaway! May even pour myself a vodka letter to celebrate! :beer:Light Bulb Moment 4th January 2009 :eek:Started DMP 1st April 2009 :ADMP mutual support thread member: 267 :j0 -
Hmmm how does it affect the relationship? Good question.
Me and hubs hardly ever argue but over the last couple of years money is the only thing we've really argued about!
He just couldn't understand why i'd get so upset about it. 'It's only money' 'it will be ok'. Well yes it will be ok, but only if we actually start doing something about it! It's always been 'ok' for him but he doesn't seem to understand it's because someone else has sorted it! there's no magic wand!
He hates dealing with money issues and therefore never does. he just hides away from it. and when you try and talk to him about it you can actually see his eyes glaze over with (i believe) disinterest. and if caught at the wrong time can be quite defensive.
Well i hate dealing with money issues too but someone has to and if i don't then we're going to go under! (Another classic quote when i used the 'we could lose the house line' which is the only thing that ever really got him worried 'well we'd never be homeless, we've got plenty of family to stay with'. Great!)
However things are better. Mainly coz I'm better. I'm happier and more relaxed and more in control. Even with the slip ups (like buying my new camera, oops) I feel like it's not the end of the world and can be sorted!! The DMP has been a godsend to my mental state! I now only cry at soppy films and sad tv shows, oh and toothache! no longer about money! woohoo!
He has no input in the DMP, but he is quite good at taking orders. I think he appreciates me taking control of it and sorting it out. And weirdly i think i like it too. don't think i'd like it to be the other way round! (Control freak? Me? Surely not!) I give him pocket money each week and that's that. However he works away most of the time and as yet i can't tell if it's easier DMP wise this way or not. Good things are i can budget better when it's just me, bad things are when he's home we want to do things and normally that costs money. he also is terrible with food and wants certain stuff, so value food or making bulk meals is impossible.
most of the debt is my name but some of it is his and i think it's all relative. when we actually got into trouble and needed to do this, on my own i could have paid mine off (well min payments, i now know even this is not ideal) but his low wages brought the money down and i was spending any money left for food and lviving on subsidising his debts. I think he thinks it's all MINE and that he's doing me a favour by lumping it together. I take the responsbility for my debt BUT a lot of it is partially his fault too. he's never earned a lot so I would always have to pay for things and have a few times had to pay his cc bills. So i do still get a bit annoyed at his apparent attitude that it's all me and he has no responsibility for it!
having said that, when given pocket money he's actually better at only spending just that than me! and he has done as he's told when asked to phone his creditors etc. (It's like having a child sometimes). Remains to be seen whether it will be better or worse when he comes back home permanently. At the moment we're so glad to be spending time together and he's so glad to not be at work that we don't want to rock the boat!
Time will tell!
Daffy
Totally with you - I have an OH just like this!0 -
Aw what a lovely honest bunch you all are!
I enjoyed reading your tales. It's nice to know that it isn't just me who gets peed off sometimes with being the main one to sort it all out. The debt is split that I owe less than 10k OH owes about 38ish. I could have kept up the payments on my bills but OH self employed work slowed down and we couldn't meet the payments anymore. We are in it together, we both spent the money and don't regret anything about being on a DMP.
* Positive update * (well might cheer someone up)
I checked my details on CCCS website and in just under a year we have gone from £51k to £48ish and our debt free date currently is 2022. (I won't do a clappy happy smiley man just yet cause I want it to be less than that!) I am waiting for tax credits to sort my renewal out and then I will call CCCS for a review, I want to pay a bit more without overstretching ourselves but OH wants to keep paying the same with an attitude towards the creditors of 'f*** 'em' (hence my relationship question earlier )
So far I have claimed back charges from Halifax, Great Universal and Monument and ppi from Capital One and 2 lots of ppi from Halifax. I have sent ppi complaints to the Financial Ombudsman for Monument, Lloyds, Marbles (HFC), Barclaycard and MBNA. We have only been turned down by Great Universal because it was so long ago and we didn't have paperwork to push further.
I'll get them all in the end just wait and see

Logged on to Halifax online this morning and my credit card account shows the following message;

I presume it means they have now received the letter from myself and CCCS regarding the start of my DMP, but I have received nothing in writing to confirm this ect.
Am I likely to?

I had exactly the same when I checked, and now for past 2 statements I've had no interest added on by them so my balance is slowly but surely coming down!
I've only actually had confirmation letters from 2 (Next and HSBC CC) however most seem to be accepting according to the statements/online log-ins I have! I think its a case of monitoring your accounts and statements as many don't bother letting you know!:j Only 5 years until I'm debt free! :j

Citifinancial keep calling time after time, starting at 8am and ending at 8pm grrrr. Half the time they call from a recognisable number, half the time from an anonymous number. How sneaky! Any tips for dealing with them please?0

HSBC are turning it up a bit now. 35 calls in the last couple of days to my mobile and house phone. They have started at 8am and yesterday I answered one at 8:30am to have a woman say to me "Good afternoon Mr Duggan"!
Mental. I refused to confirm my identity and asked for them to write to me if it was so important but apparently they couldn't because of data protection. How they send me statements each month if that is the case I'll never know. Silly people.
