has anyone had to decrease debt payments at? If so how did the creditors react

    Me....
Last October (after being on the DMP about 18 months) I reduced my DMP payments as all my bills had increased. It was about £70 less overall. And phone calls? None! And letters? Just one - First Direct asking me to sign a loan agreement saying I'd pay off the full amount on the 12th payment - as if I had 5K just sitting there  So I completely ignored it and nothing else since.

No extra interest, no charges, no moans or complaints at all - don't panic too much ;)

We also had to reduce our payments, by £180 per month. The 2nd payment at the reduced figure has been made. Now I expected phone calls, letters the lot.!! but absolutely nothing, zilch, nada. Not that I am disappointed but I had got myself geared up to do battle, and they have just accepted the situation. We have been on DMP for 14 months and have always paid, so perhaps they take this into account.

June 2010 - 11/56 lbs Weight to lose before May 2011.

  • Start my DMP with CCCS on 1st May - woooooo!!!!

Got about 12 different creditors (lots of small silly debts!) amounting to about £19k!

So glad that I feel more "in control" of everything. Was getting loads of phone calls and letters before, but now gone all quiet since they have been notified! Hope it all works out.

My main problem was Payday loans, getting new ones to pay old ones off etc. This reduced my monthly finances which obviously meant less money to make payments on loans. Very vicious cycle!!!

£356 to CCCS every month, but mortgage comes off fixed rate in July (huge drop) so should be able to clear more quickly!!!!
    Cashback Sites
    Quidco - £285.07 (Since July 07)
    Bank Charges
    HSBC - £4210 RECLAIMED!!
Nationwide, Cahoot, Alliance and Leicester - I'm coming for ya!

Welcome to all the newcomers, hope everyone had a nice easter break!

Still treading water a bit with my dmp - had a call from CCCS to call them back to finalise my details as I had forgotten a few bits and bobs in my I&E.
Am hoping to start on 1st May but not sure if CCCS have enough time to process everything.

Still ignoring mobile calls as they have all the up-to-date info from me and I don't have any extra money to give them so there is no point them asking....:rotfl:

Have you put it in writing to your creditors that you are formally notifying them they are not to contact you by telephone but must correspond only in writing? I understand if you do that, and they still telephone you, they are breaching some harrassment law/official guidelines, and you can then report them (but you tell them first, in writing, that you will do this if they continue to telephone you as what they are doing then constitutes Harrassment of a Debtor).

I think on the "ask a CCCS counsellor" thread one of the CCCS reps has posted a sample letter to use to request they no longer contact you by telephone, if that helps. If you do choose to answer the telephone to any of your creditors, simply refuse to answer any security questions they ask (meaning they cannot discuss your account with you over the telephone), tell them that they are to contact your representatives the CCCS, give them your CCCS number, and firmly state you will NOT discuss your account with any representative of their company by telephone. If they carry on yakking after that, repeat you will not discuss your account over the 'phone and advise them you are now hanging up. And do so! You could also, once having told them you will not discuss your account over the 'phone, tell them you are now starting a recording of the telephone conversation, since you have told them you will not discuss the account with them and that you now want official proof to use in any potential future case against their company for harrassment. Whether you DO record or not is up to you - but it should shut them up :)

    Just my tuppence worth ...

Hi Scruffypet, not sure if this helps pulled it from earlier on in the posts. Hope it helps though xx

    and thanks Althea xx

Hi Clucky26, what did CCCS say on transferring debts. Does this affect the DMP being accepted?

Hi debtfreeian, spoke to CCCS today, they said that because I've moved recent debts to lower interest rate C/C's, shouldn't be a problem DPM being accepted, may take a couple of requests as recent activity on the account but should be ok! Lets hope that's the case!!!

    xx

hi everyone, hope you're all ok:DI've been getting increasingly hassled by my 3 creditors recently:rolleyes:
.The calls have increased despite me writing to them etc.My mum has offered to help me pay some of the debt off, but can anyone remind me what it's called when you offer them a full and final payment which is less than the full balance, as i've seen it mentioned on here, but can't find it:confused::confused:

Hi candygirl, all I can see earlier in the posts is reduced settlement or partial settlement. But the advice does say that you need to make sure you get it in writing that it is a Full and Final settlement.
Hope this helps will let you know if I come across anything else whilt I am reading! xx
