I do a £2 credit report every now and then and check what date they last updated the credit agency (varies with each debt) and then check off what I thought the debt should have been on that date ;)

Don't have to ring them then :p

Pinksparkle..this is scare tactics..stick with you dmp and let them help you deal with this, payments are done on a pro rata system and if it does go to court (this would happen before anyone appeared at your door) the court will see you havekept them informed of what you can afford to pay and that all your creditors are being treat equally and would enforce the payment at the amount you have offered...and you know what they know this and threating to send people to your door if there way of trying to get more money as they wouldnt take it to court as they know the judge would be fuming at them, and it would cost them money to do so and they would still end up with the same payment.

Stay strong..they will try every trick in the book to get more money stick to your guns and you will be fine.

Well done Marfan...you sound so much more positive...big pat on the back to you for taking it by the horns and starting to work it out.
    xx

I believe they can send someone out, but you don't have to admit them entry to your house. It apparently costs them quite a bit of money to send someone out though, so I understand, and so is apparently unlikely that they will do so. I've heard a lot of people saying DCAs use this threat as scare tactics to harrass people into paying them money.

in one of the links, there is a template for a letter you could customise and send them. Ive copied it below.

Regarding your threat that a Doorstep Collector will call please be advised that there is only an implied license under English Common Law for certain people to visit me on my property without express permission; the postman and people asking for directions etc (Armstrong v. Sheppard and Short Ltd [1959] 2 Q.B. per Lord Evershed M.R.).

Take note, I revoke license under English Common Law for you, or any of your representatives to visit me at my property and if you do so without my permission, you will then be liable to damages for a tort of trespass. You would also be conspiring in a trespass if you sent someone to visit me nevertheless. Any trespassers you attempt to send therefore will be dealt with accordingly including but not limited to, the request of police attendance.

Please also note that having a letterbox on the property does not give you, or anyone working on your behalf, either implied nor expressed rights to enter the properties boundaries consequently any attempt to enter the properties boundaries under the claim of using the letterbox will be dealt with in the manner outlined above.

Furthermore Please take note, for legal reasons, and for of accountability, this matter will be dealt with IN WRITING ONLY from the date of this letter so please be advised, as you have now been informed of this, any further letters simply asking me to call you on a telephone number will be ignored.
If they threaten to use doorstep tactics, get in there with the above legal letter. That way if them, or anyone acting on behalf of them attempts to come to yoru door, you are legally allowed to contact the police and have them removed

    Hi,

Mercers threatened me with this in the very early days of my DMP. Appartently they have "in house" doorstep collection agents as well as the normal phone based ones. They were demanding a debit card payment, so I phoned them and kicked off. I explained that I was in a DMP and they would only get a pro rata payment of what I could afford. The "lady" was very rude and p****d off and said they would start court proceedings. (No commission for her then!!):rotfl:

Anyway, once everything was set up, Barclaycard accepted what was being offered, and the account was passed back to them. They are the only creditor not to default me and have also stopped all interest. To be honest, since then they have been really good.

    Keep your chin up! :)

    Cocker:)

I was told people would call, i would be sent to court, they would accept reduced payment if i made a one off payment that day.... and in 3 years not once have i been taken to court, had anyone knock on my door, or paid anyone more than they were offered.

They will stop these tatics soon i promise they are just trying to get any money out of you before the accept the fact you are serious about the dmp, i found after 5 payments every creditor was onside as they saw i was serious about paying them back on a regular payment date each month.

I owed at the onset of my dmp (3 years ago now)over 24k and no one ever knocked on my door.
