Thanks. I am really new to all this, and keep thinking of things I am not really sure about! want to make sure I know exactly what I am doing before I start!
Have a couple of friends who did DIY DMP's (dodnt go through any company just did everything themselves) and told me to do it like that, but I would rather have some sort of support!

I didn't want to go DIY either - it was a big step for me to admit I couldn't sort out my debt by myself and I felt I needed the support of someone else. Plus with a DMP company you only pay one payment each month and don't have to remember who to pay what to ;)

    Hi StOlli,

Can I just ask, was it definately an SAR request you sent to MBNA as it seems strange they would just supply the charges or statements? To me that would suggest they have mixed up an SAR request with a request for statements to reclaim charges. After all, even if they didn't have a copy of the CCA they should still have supplied documents with any telephone conversations which have happened & any letters they have previously sent you & any you have sent them.

Hiya Geoff, you are correct. I've just checked and the letter I sent was the template from here which is advised for reclaiming credit cards charges. I will need to send a SAR letter enclosing £10.

    Thanks for the prompt! :)

Any spare cash you aquire can be used to add to your emergency fund in case of any unexpected bills etc not budgeted for in your normal monthly budget.

You could also save it to offer one of your creditors a full and final offer to settle the account.

Using it just to clear so much of the balance to one particular creditor may be seen as favouritism towards one creditor. If any of the others found out about it, they may kick up a fuss.

At this early stage of your DMP, I would probably just keep hold of it for now.

    Cocker:)

Thanks, I havent even started the DMP yet, just want to get all my questions answered! friends all say its easy & they have had no threatening letters or anything, and one says he is paying some of his creditors just a £1 each & 2 have gone to default so he doesnt pay them anything, not quite sure why that is either, but dont want to listed to advice from friends & find it not to be the right advice!

2 have gone to default so he doesnt pay them anything

I'm not quite sure why that would be either!

Two of mine have issued default notices but they still get paid each month by CCCS. The default notices just mean a black mark on my credit rating (whoop de dooo - it's rubbish anyway) and that they stop interest - which is the whole aim of a DMP !!! ;)

They could still take further action against him if he is paying nothing (eg CCJ) and the court apparently looks more favourably upon people trying to make at least a token payment, rather than those who ignore their debts or try to avoid them.

If I were you, I'd suggest he pops onto this thread - or asks CCCS, Payplan or National Debtline for a bit of advice.

And I'd also .... take their advice with a slight pinch of salt :o sorry.

yes thanks will do that! although it does help knowing that 2 of our closest friends are doing DMP's also 2 other friends IVA's, and possibly others we don't know about! make me feel not quite so terrible for getting into this situation!

I think if he's doing an IVA or about to go into an IVA then the advice on payments is different to a DMP as I think they pay them a really low amount to encourage them to agree to the IVA terms (being less than the full debt amount) ;)

Myself and partner was going to start one with a fee paying firm for the first 6-12 months, until we know what we are doing them maybe go to CCCS/payplan...

  • Why doesn't anyone put their contact addresses online anymore?? I'm trying to get the customer service address for both LLoyds TSB and RBS but they don't have them anywhere on their websites! I would look at my statements but I don't have any (you'd be lucky if I even opened them!). Does anyone know these addresses?
Do what you want because in the end people will judge you anyway.
