Busy morning in the post, lots of letters. (The amount of paper they go through is shocking) Hubby and I booth got a default each from Nationwide. On reading it, it says that they stop interest for 28 days then apply it at 16%. I thought someone said, maybe you Mr Geoff1 that once a default was issued they stopped interest. Bit puzzling!!
Got letter from Mint asking me to ring and discuss things, not sure whether to bother ringing or not?? Is there any point
Tigert is correct, it wasn't me who said they stopped interest after a default was issued, believe me I wish that were true, then my debt with HSBC would be going down not up. If a creditor wishes to sell a debt on then they have to issue a default to close the account first.
Regarding that interest at 16% is exactly why you need a copy of your CCA from them. Unless it's stated in the agreement they can charge you that at such a rate you need to be looking to challenge it.:j DMP mutual support thread member - 135:j0 -

Aegis have been calling since we defaulted back in January. 5 times a week, sometimes 3 times a day.
After telling them I cannot pay the full amount, they said "can you pay £xxx amount", I said I would see, and this went on for about 5 weeks.
In the end, i had a polite conversation (managed to bait them for almost 20 minutes (a personal best for me)) and basically the operator said "Look, I know youve been speaking to my colleagues, and I can see from the call history you have paid some money off, but if you can settle the outstanding arrears of £ xxx ( wasnt much, about £150 less the Payplan payment ) that will stop us having to contact you and the calls will stop. ( again, the antagonistic side of me piped up" thats a shame, I always looked forward to speaking to you people, I dont have many friends!!!" )
And they just stopped ( touching wood, rubbing lucky rabbits foot! )LBM - Oct - 08 DMP Started - Feb -09

Be careful what you say to creditors on the phone, its all recorded & marked down on your file. In itself thats not a problem but should a creditor ever decide to take you to court & you have been sarcastic or appear to not care about your debts it will be produced before the judge & will go against you.
I got so frustrated with Weightmans Solicitors(dealing on behalf of HFC) & their threats & promises that they would get a charge over my property that I ended up shouting at them on the phone. When we got around to witness statements etc for the court all that stuff & what I said was in the documents. I was lucky as I had an unenforceable agreement so they backed out of the trial & agreed to my repayment proposal, I won't be making the same mistake twice though. On one occasion due to their ignorance & attitude I had told them the Judge would see it my way & have since realised how bad that would have actually looked in court.:j DMP mutual support thread member - 135:j0 -

This is our first month on the DMP and we are only on the 13th of the month and we have £160 left to see us through till pay day (3rd April)
All the bill are accounted for and I reckon we have enough petrol to get us through so its really food, and everyday stuff.
Any ideas how to make this stretch??0 -
Thanks Tigert and GeoffMr1.Thats right it was Cocker who thought they stopped interest. Pity isnt it?
GeoffMr1, thanks for letting us know ething is recorded when we speak to them, as it is tempting to loose the head, and then like you say it wouldnt look good in court.DMP Mutual Support Thread No 278

There's loads of threads there for cooking on a budget.
As for everything else, just make sure you really need it before buying!DMP mutual support thread No: 2430 -
Got a letter from M&S today accepting my payments for a year. Yay!
Shame I've just doubled my payments to them, but I guess that'd please them?
I forgot about the recording calls thing. I rang a creditor up a few weeks ago to explain that I'd already rung up before and they said "Oh yes, it says here that blah blah blah...)
The only time I've really lost it is when a creditor said my £1 monthly payment to them was next to useless to them, to which I asked for my money back! They were going to do it as well...DMP mutual support thread No: 2430 -
Cook eveything from scratch using basic brands, used herbs and spices to add extra flavours. Make shopping list/meal plans and stick to them. Buy in bulk eg large sacks of spuds, pasta ect.
I shop on approx £70 a week for 6 of us, and i make everything from scratch.
Hope your all ok
