Suziepoor - Please don't feel down about your debt, it doesn't matter how we got here what matters is what we do about it now and everyone will be familiar with this story;
got offered a credit card
paid credit card off a few times the limit increased
offered a loan - promised self to pay off credit card balance
paid off credt card balance. limit increased but ran up to limit again
now have loan and credit card debt
offered a new loan to consolidate the card and loan
still kept the card and ran up to the limit
offered a new card, ran that up to
offered a new loan or card
ran them up too
payments get too much
struggling to meet basic minimum payments
get behind with rent, bills, food shopping money goes down
feel alone and worried

I am having a bit of a dilemma this end although it is a nice dilemma!! We have a 4 year old DD and because of our debt, have not attempted to have another.
However, we really feel that if we leave it much longer the age gap will be too large. My age is not really an issue as of yet but my DD has started asking why she isn't having a sister or brother when a lot of our friends are busy having their second (or third!) child. I really feel now is a good time in terms of my age, my job and my DD but not in terms of money!
We want to be completely responsible for our debt but don't feel having another baby is a very responsible thing to do when we owe so much money. We are stuck between listening to our hearts and our heads. But if we wait until we are out of debt she will be 9 and I will be over 35!
We have looked into tax credits etc and because we are both high-ish earners we would hardly qualify for anything. Obviously, child benefit would be a bit more but looks like we would have to cope on what we pretty much get now. I would definitely have to go back to work after 6 months which is OK but I want to be part time as after first DD I went back full time (had to pay mortgage) and it was VERY tough.
Because our friends and family are completely unaware of our debt I can't voice my concerns to them - they all think its mad that we haven't had one yet when I am obviously so broody! Can anyone offer some wise words?? Jan 2008-Paid 74% of debt as of MAR 2012 (DFD - APR 2014) DMP Support Thread Member 154  DFW Long Hauler 116:grin: Official DFW Nerd Club 928- Proud to be dealing with my debts :grin:0 -

Oh there is no better sight in the world than just gazing at your baby; squished face wondering whose nose he/she has got, the tiniest fingernails and just the amazement of making a baby, where it come from etc (hope that doesn't sound too weird!) but then when you see and smell the stuff that comes out the other end, the amount of dirty washing baby produces, the constant worry if your house/worktops/carpets are sterile you do wonder whether those few minutes of passion (unless he is a stud;) ) is all worth it! :rotfl:
Just kidding.......Congratulations MBS! :TDMP support thread member 211 :cool:I'm only here to get some medals......honest!0 -
Hi Tinkerbell
Would one more child put your lives in jeopardy? would it mess everything up? you can't say 'wait until you have saved x amounts of pounds until having another child' because life just doesn't always follow your rules and plans, if you did wait and paid the debt off in 5 years then you might regret putting your family on hold, you might not feel like it then and wonder what may have been.
If you did have another child, I am sure you wouldn't starve, it isn't like your life would be over but your bikini days would be!Your debts would take a little longer to pay off and it's not like your career or chances of working will be all over. I'm sure if most families had to wait to save enough money to have their second or third child well there would be alot of two parents one child kind of families around. You learn to re-adjust, you have to. You will find ways to cope even in debt. It isn't like you are both on the dole having babies just because you can with no real plan to support your family, if you feel you are ready to have another child to feel complete as a family unit, then I would go for it. Your happiness is worth far more than any debt.

Tinkerbell, I wanted to reply to your post to say that debt shouldn't get in the way of the really important things in life and was struggling to find the right words
. Toffee Penny has said it beautifully and I just want to echo everything in her post :j . Another baby will be worth far more in happiness than paying the debts off faster
.
Gosh at this rate we'll have to start a DMP creche :rotfl: .

Thank you so much both of you for your supportive posts:
Toffee Penny - I must say that I never had a time in my life when I wore a bikini so no trouble there!!
You are both right - it shouldn't get in the way but I do feel guilty about it. I really think a 9 year gap would be too large and I may also not conceive at that age.
I think myself and DH have decided to go for it so of no-one else needs babydust right now - can I please have yours (except it'll have to be an IOU if you want money for it!!)
Thanks again guys - I'm off to chase DH around the bedroom lol! Jan 2008-Paid 74% of debt as of MAR 2012 (DFD - APR 2014) DMP Support Thread Member 154  DFW Long Hauler 116:grin: Official DFW Nerd Club 928- Proud to be dealing with my debts :grin:0 -
Evening Folks
Just wanted to ask a couple of questions
I have completed the debt remedy on CCCS website and received a letter from them with a letter that I have to photocopy and send to all my creditors. When I completed the income and expenditure form I underestimated one of my expenses will I be able to adjust this with CCCA before I actually set up the plan?
Secondly how long does it take to set up a DMP and if I sent the paperwork off to CCCA by the end of this week when would my first payment become due?
Many thanks
MNMDMP starting 1/3/09 - thanks to CCCS & MSEI am now proud to be dealing with my debts!Big thanks to everyone on the DMP Mutual Support Threadyour support has inspired me to get this sorted once and for all xx0 -
