Not posted for ages. Just wanted to drop in as an long time dmp member.

Just coming up to my 3rd year on dmp anniversary, everything is going great, all creditors still onside and it seems so long since iv had an grief from any one over money!.

I just wish i had done this yrs before we did.

So to any of you just starting out..the first few months are the hardest..the rest is just sitting and waiting for your DFD...it will come.

    Good luck to everyone

    Hi Toffeepenny

Dont let Hellifax get you down. They were our last creditor to stop interest and would listen to nothing.
Eventually we were passed to Blair, Oliver and Scott ,who are the inhouse debt collection team. Since then all interest and charges have stopped and at last our debt to them is coming down:T .

We felt the same anger and frustration during this time , however as overall our debt [ we have lots!!]was still decreasing we decided to stick it out .

Hope that they stop charging you interest and charges soon

    good luck

    Thanks for that Donna

It's nice to hear from others who have been on a DMP for a while. I bet when you read through all our posts on here you can relate to all of what we are going through now.

Thanks for that Ald, it's just so frustrating when you see the statement and feel like your whole world is collapsing because they are charging 30 odd quid a month especially when you are learning how to spend money the proper way instead of relying on credit.

Toffee, youve been an inspiration and its been really educational reading your posts while we were setting up our DMP.
its good to come on here and see others have had the same issues or beable to speak to others that are sympathetic and non-judgemental.
We too are keeping our financial ststus secret from family and friends, however we have told people that we are cutting back with a view to finally releasing us from the debt millstone.

Aw thanks for that 2spicy I often wonder if I come across as a 'woman on the edge' type character! I'm different each time I come on here. I am normal honest! :D

    Hi Toffepenny

Hellifax charged us for approximately eight months and added a huge amount to our debt during that time. I thought that they would never stop and I know how horrible it is to open the statement from them each month and see all the added interest etc. Our other 14 creditors !!!all stopped interest and luckily thet outweighed the increasing Hellifax debt.
    Hang in there.
we are now over a year into our DMP and life is good again

Halifax was one of my `big` creditors, they were the last to stop interest, the last to stop phoning...but they will...3 yrs later not hear from them for over 2 years!!! And still accepting the payments and not applying interest.

Egg was the nicest of my creditors and they are now almost paid off, 4 of my creditors will be gone forever in May and that will leave me only 4, i started with 15 creitors 3 years ago, currently have only 8.
    Debt at LBM,...24K !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Debt Now.......10K Almost 9k!!!!! Still a way to go..but i can almost see the finish line!

I can relate to nearly everything you all say on here, your not the first people to go through it and wont be the last...dont have any shame...i am proud that i am dealing with my debts and will repay every penny i spent.

Hold your heads up high...you all derserve too

I thought this... you could send token payments of £1 to them until your situation changes but... to be honest I'd probably be over on the bankruptcy board as soon as I was notified - depending of course whether you own your own home or not. I have no mortgage, nothing of value and my current job wouldn't directly be affected by bankruptcy although there may be a limit as to what firms I could work in.

I've had a look over there and the advice network is fantastic with everyone helping each other. Although it's not an easy course, it's still a possible way forward.

Worth having a read though a few threads to see that it may not be quite that bad :o

Though CCCS/Payplan could advise at the time if that was the correct course for you.

well I don't own my own house and have no car. Couldn't afford bankruptcy lol
  • It's a shame you can't put the bankruptcy fees onto your DMP :rotfl:

We'd all be doing it! :D

I think its about £600 or something is it? Hmmm. One month of my DMP payment would nearly cover it :o

Maybe that should be my emergency fund goal :rotfl:
