    You should be fine.
We delayed our payments for 2 months and, all the creditors will cash the tokens, some may hold the account at the offset, but most will just add late charges and then hassle you for the outstanding.
The tactic we have seen used by MBNA is they will call and say Yes, we see you are going on a DMP which is fine, but you need to clear the arrears on yoru account before the DMP starts.
We have been told the DMP will only cover the payments from the start date and arrears on the account will not get paid..
They will threaten you with Credit score damage
We have had them call and offer consolidation loans (just accuse them of proffiteering and takeing advantage at this point telling them its consolidation and credit that has got you in this place in the first place).
Donot get pressurised into making additional payments ( a DMP treats all creditors pro - rata fairly. tell them youll give them more pro rata IF you can afford it at the end of the month.

Donot let them BULLY you. If it gets too much, simpoly tell them your hanging up.,

one question! my aunt gave me £50 yesterday as she knows we are struggling, should i add to emergency fund or use it to stock up on loo roll, washing powder, nappies( on offer at mo) etc to save money on shopping budget in the first few months?

Dont worry, weve all been there.

Advice ... personally, we used our spare cash to stock up on essentials / tinned food etc. its really cumulative. either you spend now and put the saved cash aside every month or you save the initial cash lump and just spend as you need.

Personally, I would rather have a stockpile just incase. Its really up to you.

    Hi Bex,

I've been with Payplan just over a year and have never been requested to send any documents in. When I started, they took approximate balances from me. They confirmed these with my creditors and that was it.

The only letters I've ever sent them are letters of assignment when debts have been handed over to DCA's.

Just had my 1 year review and they didn't ask for any documentation then either.

all I've ever set is DCA letters etc

Do you think Payplan will hate me if I start paying off the little stuff? Going to pay off my TSB OD soon which would mean an extra £5 plus I'm increasing my payments by £25 a month from next month. Also going to contact my 2 DCA's about true balance, one is only £200 the other for £600 but if they bought the debt for less they could be anything.

I think I'm paying min to most of my creditors (not incl loan) so could do it alone but don't want them to start adding interest. TSB have already started this, unless they never stopped!!!!!!

    With Payplan: March 2006 - May 2011!

ok, so i have just cancelled my non priority direct debits. i am in the process of writing token letters and nothing is due til next week. At the moment i am going between sh**ing myself (as that is a really big step for me) and the greatest feeling of relief.

I am worried about the timing of all of this as i have not got my unrelated bank account details yet. am i right in thinking that the worst that could do in the first month is write some letters and add late fees?

Also, our mortgage is with Natwest home loans. most of our debt is with Natwest. will a DMP affect my mortgage? (will be keeping up to date with mortgage if it kills me - it might!!)

    Thanks guys

    Hi there

Our biggest debt is a loan with RBS and our mortgage is also with them. We were told that they are two completely different things and as long as the mortgage repayments are kept up to date then it won't affect anything.

    DMP WITH PAYPLAN
  • Hello!

Ooh my head is spinning! I am sorting out the applications for our new accounts with NatWest (step accounts) and there is a form to fill in to transfer all the direct debits and standing orders which is great. It also says, however, they will close the other account and transfer the balance.

Hmm. Firstly, there will be no balance as we are OD and the OD is going onto DMP. Secondly, there is some OD facility left which we have been using to live (where my salary is paid in). I am concerned that once Natwest apply to close the account, I will no longer have access to that OD facility iyswim. As soon as I get new account details I need to take out my money up to OD limit and pay it into Natwest.... will I be able to do this?

Sorry if that's confusing, but that's the state of my mind at the moment!
