So its constantly on then?
Sorry to say but who says "I use it once every so often" something like that mean they are using it every given moment,
Well me for a start. I'd say it because my sister goes through washing machines regularly thanks to a builder husband, small children and several pets. Therefore I know that some people to extensively use their machines but as I don't (only me, no pets etc) I would feel the need to clarify that it is an underused machine.

OP I had a hotpoint dishwasher that lasted a whole 31 days and then the motherboard packed in completely. I did get a new replacement thanks to comet eventually and sorry none of what I've said helps you at all I know but I do wonder if this make's going to be a bit of a lemon.
Even if I used it once a day for 31 days that's not over use or abuse, you expect to use it once a day to wash up, you don't buy a dog and then bark yourself do you.0 -
Thanks so very much for all your helpful responses and advice.
I've decided to drop it .... some battles just aren't worth getting scars for.0 -

That's what they depend on unfortunately.
One bit of good news though it looks like D.Edna has been banned"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

The £100 thing isn't exclusive to Hotpoint.
We have a 5 year old Candy over which went on the blink earlier this year and had to pay a one off £100 charge for the engineer. We paid it and tbh it was worth doing as he had to come back three times. I did consider an independant engineer, but am glad that I didn't chose that option."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0
