HOTPOINT ...... Grrrrrrrr

Options
My £350 14 month old dishwasher from Hotpoint has given up the ghost. If that's not bad enough - Hotpoint (or Indeset) want £100 or £150 (?) for the pleasure of coming to fix it!

I can understand it being beyond warranty, but £100 to come and fix it is just daylight robbery and then some!! I should say, this is just a labour charge, as we're covered for free parts (ahhh, but only if we use a Hotpoint engineer!)

And, I hasten to add, that if a fairly underused machine can get a pump failure within 14 months, does that not say something about about a poor product in the first place! Perhaps that's why the cutlery basket fell to pieces within 6 months???

Highly recommend avoiding Hotpoint

:rotfl: (I can't believe that I could ever get so worked up about a product or company .... I actually sat here a minute ago, thinking about setting up an I hate Hotpoint campaign - but then I ate some chocolate, had a world reality check and have calmed enough to limit my Hotpoint War to venting on MSE - I think they've got off lightly :rotfl:

say to hotpoint that they should fix it free under the soga - a pump should last more than 14 months even if it is used a couple of times a week- i have been using the same washing machine for 5 years - its a bit noisy on the spin cycle but thats it

    What does SOGA mean?

Thanks for coming back to me - I'm getting madder and madder. I just phoned a local repair company that want to charge £25 to come and give me a quote about how much it will cost to fix!!

I'm now scouring currys / comet to buy a new flippin' machine!

I might just pay for the old one to be put on display in Trafalgar Square as a warning to other would be Hotpoint customers!!

SOGA is the Sale Of Goods Act you have up to 6 years depending of course on how long a reasonable person would expect a washing machine to last I would suggest more than 12 months.

Your contract is with the retailer not Hotpoint and as such your first contact should be with the retailer. However they are likely to tell you to go away so you need to persist I would suggest you speak to the manager.

You may need to have the Dishwasher inspected to confirm the fault is due to manufacture not wear and tear but it is unreasonable that a washing machine only lasts for just over 12 months.

If you have any problems I suggest getting in touch with consumer direct.

ceebeeby, where did you buy it from?

Go back to whoever you bought it from and tell them to get it fixed for free! I'd say it's reasonable to expect a dishwasher to last say 3 years without developing a fault, so under the SOGA, you should be entitled to a free repair.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

    So its constantly on then?

Sorry to say but who says "I use it once every so often" something like that mean they are using it every given moment,

are you on the crack again?

The relevance of it been on every day or once a month escapes me. It does not affect the OPs rights

It does when the OP has bought a domestic machine and using it like an industrial one.

You seem to have missed the relevant (to your post) part.

So saying "I use it very rarely" makes it believable?

As believable, if not more so than you deciding they are running a launderette !

d.edna I see nowhere where the op says that they use the dishwasher constantly and it's a bit rude to suggest that.

My Hotpoint dishwasher is 8yrs old and used every other day and I have not had any problems with it... so they are not all bad...
