We have a Hotpoint washer dryer, forget how much it was, but it wasn't the cheapest model.. Ours is around 17/18 months old guess how many times we've had Hotpoint out to it, 5 times!! The first was just before it was a year old  There are 3 of us, it can't be due to over use?! Good thing we have an extended warranty, when that comes to an end we'll buy a new machine - It WON'T be a Hotpoint one!The £2.00 Coin Savers Club = approx £22.00  :j.. The 20p Savers Club = £17.80.

So what if they use it every day? It's a dishwasher !!!!!! - if you've got a family and have 3 meals a day it's quite conceivable that you'd use it 5-7 times a week.0

i had the same problem wit our tumble dryer we bought just over a year agos and hope suddenly it stopped working on the 13 month !, Indesit refused to acknowldeged the SOGA so we end up paying the cover . i think it is morally wrong !BSC number 1830

My mum bought a Hotpoint washing machine five yrs ago and within a year she had to have someone out to look at it as it was making a really horrible noise when running a cycle. It was repaired.
Then about 6 months later the drum wouldn't turn at all. This time she got an independent guy to look at it, as Hotpoint would've charged. The guy said something about the motor and repaired it for £40, which isn't bad really.
It's worked fine now for the past couple of years.0 -
Gosh I have been here before... Good Luck and I hope it gets sorted out. Never mind remarks by d.edna. He/she is obviously bored and adding fuel to the fire if you know what I mean.
Anyway, to repair our hotpoint we had a friend out who is actually a mechanic and it's been working ever since.

you know what I had a aunt/uncle/dad/sister/brother who bought (not brought) a different brand/product to the op and it xyz'd and I did abc.....
People this is getting a little off topic and not really helping the op (and yes I know I'm partially guilty too)0 -
As has been said, you may well have a case under SOGA, but Hotpoint wont simply roll over and give in.
You'll have to fight your corner and they will defend themselves all the way. The onus will be on you to prove that 13 months use is unacceptable for such a product and this will no doubt include demonstrating approximate usage and also providing an independent report (at your initial expense) into the reasons for the failure.
You'll have to be organised, honest, thorough and committed.
But I'll add a question here..... After the initial 12 month warranty has expired does a consumer act against the retailer or the manufacturer ?
If you decide to go for it there will be people here who will offer practical advice and support, but initially I would seek professional advice from the CAB or similar.
Good luck whatever your decision.0 -
I think you should get it repaired getting it done under your Statutory rights as this also includes purchasing something that "you expect to work for a reasonable amount of time" even if out of the warranty period0
