We kept chickens when I was a child! The youngsters used to lay eggs with no yolks so lots of homemade meringues, and when they got older double yolkers. :T I'm afraid we did eat them once they stopped laying ... my childhood was very Old Style, as we had a fruit cage, chickens and rabbits in the garden, and an allotment for veg.

After a 'purple patch' of surveys the other week, it's been a bit of a dry spell!! A few more points on GTM and 75p today on Valued Opinions. By the end of today I will have done ten hours overtime, and another five booked in for the week after next.

Off to my friend's house tonight to drink copious amounts of wine but should only cost me a taxi ride home.

It's a large wooden frame covered in netting that you grow fruit inside to protect it from birds and some pests. Ours was pretty large - it had a 'door' and you could walk about in it! We had a vine, raspberries, loganberries, gooseberries, red and white currants ... we also had strawberries, an apple tree and elderberries in other parts of the garden. With the alottment as well it was all very 'The Good Life'!! :p

We have a terrine (Value jelly, frozen berries) setting in the fridge, banana ice cream setting in the freezer and lemony yellow lentils simmering on the hob (ancient chicken stock and a wrinkly red pepper)!! :A I am completely fed up of cooking for Mr. Fire Fox as he often lets things go to waste, so I am going to let him fend for himself for a while. This means I can prepare more frugal food for myself, as I like pulses and he does not. ;)

Just joined the August Grocery Challenge, setting myself a not-too-ambitious target of £100. Although I have already spent £12 on bits and bobs, the freezer is full of meat so as long as I keep my head in Asda on Monday it can be done.

Asda shop just £36 plus £5 for the taxi home. :j Managed to forget to buy leeks and chicken livers despite having a list. The only expensive items were fortified wine £2.40, four bottle of squash £2.50 and three multipacks of crisps £3.

Currently on the hob is some iffy beef and baby corn from the freezer in 20p Szechuan sauce, to which will later be added the last of the red pak choi.

And ... £30 of Clubcard vouchers arrived in the post, along with a £9 and two £6 coupons off a £60 spend. I can easily manage that if i spend £20 of double-up vouchers on wine leaving just £40 for food. :T

Hi FireFox- I decided to drop in and pick up some cookery tips.
I think I'll have to start posting itemised shopping lists so I can get advice as to where to cut back.
Your use of leftovers etc is very inspiring
