I have taken a few people to these and generally they go well but you have to volunteer information as well

If it's basis is on mental health grounds go in there describing your worst day of the week not your best as that usually helps - peopler sometimes feel they are ok that day but this is about how you do each week

Things like if you lost a job through struggling often get overlooked but add 2 points towards 15

and as you looki through the points system jot stuff down with the points next to it and be prepared with it making sure every thing on that list is stated during that interview

    All the best

I'm not sure what I could volunteer, but i'll be as open as I can.

I will describe my worst days, I have mostly bad days so it won't be too hard.

I'll get those 2 points easy, it's why I have finished about 3 jobs.

I'll make notes, I done the test and I easily pass, if I give all the information.

I have my CPN report. It does detail alot of personal issues, and the reasons I need 'help'

Would that help my case or would that be too much information?

I really understand and sympathise with you on this, just stick with it and you will get through it. Well thats the way I am thinking!

I have my appeal in a fortnight for my incapacity benefit, at the moment I am going to go through with it even though I dont feel like I can win!

Good Luck. You can't win if you don't appeal, so just go for it :)

I'm sure they will try and trick me, I'll not be lying, but i'm sure the moment they hear I smiled once and that I made an effort for Christmas, they'll deem me fit for work.

My assessment is tomorrow morning (Monday)

    Any last bit of advice?

I haven't taken down my Xmas decorations yet, not been motivated enough and i'm always going to bed because I feel so tired :(

Should I mention this if it comes up in discussion, or will I be punished because I had Christmas?

Should I mention I rarely go out and recently spent 7 days indoors without going out?

I am worried about tomorrow, I know they will deem me fit for work once they get the Doctors report :(
  • As you will almost certainly be asked how you spend a typical day it would be wise to think about the frustrations your condition causes you and to include them in your description of your daily activities.

So say you mentioned you posted to the forums on the Internet simply stating that might allow the Assessor to conclude you were able to concentrate for long enough to follow a thread, construct replies and post them. Normal communucation abilities. No problem then for office type work.

So you would in your description of you PC related activities have to include how you cope with the difficulties as you find them and what happens when things go wrong and why you sometimes find it difficult to reply even when you know the answer but can't explain why you find it impossible to reply. There may be other problems you have with PC related matters such as taking digital photos and then not bothering to do anything with them. Having stuff on your PC that you would like to explore but finding you simply can't cope with finding your way round the system and how you once were able to set up a website and load it and maintain it and now you just can't be bothered even though you know it would be better if you did. Discussing in negative terms the problems and failures you have rather than focussing on what you can achieve will provide the right sort of information providing of course your failures are things not beyond the reasonable expectations of the average person.

Why it's confusing that sometimes it's easy to find the right words and communicate but at other times you find yourself arguing about silly stupid things and making a fool of yourself (Not talking about you here but some here with reasonable memories may know what I'm alluding toicon12.gif) .

You may be able to come up with other examples of your behaviours which fit descriptor statements which could be dropped into the activities you are describing. I used to read all the time. Several books a week but when I'm down I can't get passed a paragragh. I used to read a paper and follow the news but now it distresses me so much I can't bear to listen.

Similarly I may be fine when nothing is happening but just put the slightest bit of pressure on, when something has to be done at a particular time and I freeze and just can't cope at all. Dammed irritating thing is I could tell someone else what to do and explain how one should get through it but I'll leave it to the last minute, panic and have tantrums and eventually get it sorted and wonder what the fuss was about.

Hope it goes well. If you get one of these computer assisted assessments do feed back here how it goes as I'd be interested to hear.

I'm going to have to be careful, because I don't think they will understand. I am physically able to work, just not mentally. I will try to get the point across the best I can, but I do struggle with lots of things.

We'll see how it goes....only 1 1/2 to go, and I shall report back :o

I'm not sure how that went.

He was an old man, and kept saying " I understand "

Don't fancy my chances. Everytime I spoke he interrupted, so I couldn't say all that I wanted too
