    I've been rummaging down in the Tiff archives and look what I found...
    THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS
    The twelve days refers to the twelve festive days after Christmas that is from 26th December to the 6th January. Celebrated since medieval times it started on the day after Christmas as Christmas day traditionally was considered holy and not for 'partying'. The 12 days were filled with merry-making and continuous feasting. It was once a most welcomed break for the workers where all work accept for looking after animals would stop and restart again on 'Plough Monday' the first Monday after the Twelfth night. Traditionally a Yule log was kept alight for these 12 days and was considered a bad omen if it went out before time!
    During the twelve days it was popular for people to visit each other with traditional minced pies. A Lord of Misrule was appointed and role reversals were common. For example masters would serve their slaves and even slaves could hold a public position during the 12 days.

    The Twelve Days of Christmas has 12 different significances:
    1. On the first day of Christmas my true love sent to me: A Partridge in a Pear Tree
    Symbolizing Jesus himself (partridge) who feigns injury to decoy predators from her helpless nestlings

    2. On the second day of Christmas my true love sent to me: Two Turtle Doves
    Symbolizing the Old and the New Testaments

    3. On the third day of Christmas my true love sent to me: Three French Hens
    Symbolizing the three theoretical virtues of Faith, Hope and Love

    4. On the fourth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: Four Calling Birds
    Symbolizing the Four Gospels:
    • Mark,
    • Matthew,
    • John, and Luke,
    • who announced the Good News of God's reconciliation of the world to Himself in Jesus Christ
    5. On the fifth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: Five Golden Rings
    Symbolizing the Five Books of Old Testaments

    6. On the sixth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: Six Geese a-laying
    Symbolizing the six days God took to create and sustain the world

    7. On the seventh day of Christmas my true love sent to me: Seven Swans a-swimming
    Symbolizing the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit:
    • prophecy,
    • ministry,
    • teaching,
    • exhortation,
    • giving,
    • leading,
    • compassion
    8. On the eighth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: Eight Maids a-milking
    Symbolizing the Eight Heavenly Happiness':
    • Blessed are the poor in spirit,
    • those who lament,
    • the humble,
    • those who hungry and thirsty for justice,
    • the merciful,
    • the pure in heart,
    • the peacemakers,
    • those who are offended for the sake of justice.
    9. On the ninth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: Nine Ladies Dancing
    Symbolizing the nine Fruit of the Holy Spirit:
    • love,
    • joy,
    • peace,
    • patience,
    • kindness,
    • generosity,
    • faithfulness,
    • gentleness,
    • self-control.
    10. On the tenth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: Ten Lords a-leaping
    Symbolizing the Ten Commandments:
    • You shall have no other Gods but me.
    • You shall not make for yourself any idol, nor bow down to it or worship it.
    • You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.
    • You shall remember and keep the Sabbath day holy.
    • Respect your father and mother.
    • You must not kill.
    • You must not commit adultery.
    • You must not steal.
    • You must not give false evidence against your neighbour.
    • You must not be envious of your neighbour's goods. You shall not be envious anything that belongs to your neighbour
    11. On the eleventh day of Christmas my true love sent to me: Eleven Pipers Piping
    Symbolizing The eleven Faithful Apostles:
    • Simon Peter,
    • Andrew,
    • James,
    • John,
    • Philip,
    • Bartholomew,
    • Matthew,
    • Thomas,
    • James bar Alphaeus,
    • Simon the Zealot,
    • Judas bar James (This list doesn't include the 12th disciple Judas for betraying Jesus).
    12. On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: Twelve Drummers Drumming
    Symbolizing the twelve points of doctrine in the Apostles' Creed
    • I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
    • I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
    • He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.
    • He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell [the grave].
    • On the third day he [COLOR=blue! important][FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][COLOR=blue! important][FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]rose[/FONT][/color][/FONT][/color] again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
    • He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
    • I believe in the Holy Spirit,
    • The holy Catholic Church,
    • The communion of saints,
    • The forgiveness of sins,
    • The resurrection of the body,
    • life everlasting.
    Case Study: Twelve Days of Christmas also signifies the song written in England as one of the "catechism songs" to help young Catholics learn the basics of their faith. Each of the items in the song represents something significant to the teachings of the Catholic faith. ''

    Aww it's a pudding cat :D that looks well cute! Im proud of my little self that i've just finished wrapping the last few presents made my own bow and everything :D

    I'm getting ready for a drink and a party!! but cant drink as i have to drive to my OH's in a bit :( not looking forward to that!

    I love the cola advert with the trucks i just sit and watch it lucky i have it on tape from a programme i put in my watch list on the v+ box so just rewind it and watch it all the time lol!

    Just popped in to say happy christmas to everyone. I know not everyone is looking forward to it but its soon over.

    I must say I have never found this thread cliquey at all (I hate that!) and everyone drops in and out and sometimes posts get missed.

    Ive been to Sainsburys to get my food and they've run out of lettuce, spring onions and they also have no chocolate logs!:cool: I nearly bought one last week but thought the date on them was a bit too early. I wish I had now! Still, I don't care. There are worse things to happen. Ive bought a chocolate fudge cake instead and got a lettuce from my local CoOp.:p I must admit that Im glad my daughter was with me. I haven't done a big food shop for a long time and get it delivered usually. I was in tears when I got there and wouldn't have gone in at all if she hadn't been with me.

    Just got some cleaning up to do, walk the dogs and prepare tomorrow's veg. Then off to SIL for a celebratory glass of something nice.

    Hope everyone copes tomorrow and manages to enjoy it!
