Burgalar Alarm PIR Sensors 'churp'

  • I read somewhere that the "churp" comes from the PIR sensors if activated,And can be turned off by a small switch inside the PIR unit-The tamper circuit in the PiR might sound your alarm when the cover is removed but only if it has been installed to do this-Let the alarm sound and have a quick look inside the PIR's it should not take long so the alarm wont be sounding for that long-Good Luck

  • Its a software settings somewhere send off an email to Veritas tech support for advice, and I think you have serviced it now- the walk test what else do you want to do - if it works leave it alone.
Get the make model/capacity of the internal battery for info when you need it, if you have a volt meter check the voltage with the mains ON and OFF would be say 13-14v with mains and 11-12 on battery, (for a 12v unit that is).

Is there a function for putting this alarm in walk-test mode? Perhaps the churp is a feature of walk-test mode?
What exactly is the make and model number of this alarm ...i googled myself and found veritas 8 alarms at maplin with a link to http://www.lynteck.co.uk/ in an answer to an item listing but i wasn't sure it's correct manufacturers as i couldn't see "veritas" mentioned anywhere. As you found the manual online can you paste the URL then hopefully one of us may be able to shed some light on this.
I'd also try phoning the manufacturer.

This is not controlled by the panel.
I am not aware of any detectors that do this.

If you mean that the panel chirps every time a detector operates, there are two explanations.

The good one is that every zone is a chime zone and chime is switched on – to switch chime off, press the musical button on the keypad, you will get a falling tone when switching off and a rising tone when switching on.

The bad scenario is that the panel is overdue a service and the service timer needs to be reset. You will need to get the installer to do this for you. If you cannot contact the original installer, the panel may have to be defaulted and reprogrammed.
In the worst case, the original installer may have locked the engineer code & the panel will not be able to be reprogrammed.

This would tell you the Battery voltage but would not give you the amperage.

The Battery for this panel i think would be a 12volt 2.1amp.

Are all the PIR's making the noise? It might be the relay inside the pir that opens when it detects movement.

Stand still in each room and wait for the red led to go out, then move to activate the pir, does the noise happen in all of them and also does it do it when the front door is opened(presumeing the door has a contact)

Yes all PIR's make exactly the same noise for the same duration, and only make this churp noise when they detect movement and the small LED comes on. It only makes the noise on the local PIR that is detecting movement.

    No contact on door.

Does the PIR cover come off, and what happens if I break it?!
  • This is an odd one,yes the cover will come off the PIR,sometimes there is a small slot for a screwdriver underneath or some just pull off,top or bottom. If the tamper is wired correctly the alarm will go off internally only(tamper)enter the alarm code and the noise will stop.Have a look at the pcb in the PIR,there is probably 2 sets of pins with a link over them,1 for LED on/off and the other for pulse count, this determins how many beams have to be broken to trigger the alarm.Try moving the little link to another position, replace the cover and reset the panel by entering your code, then move in front of the pir to see if it still does it.

Let me know how you get on.

  • OK I will try tomorrow and take some pics and upload them. Thanks again.
