I don't think there is a problem with refilling water bottles as long as they are cleaned thoroughly each time, just as you would any other cooking or eating utensil.
  • ... cough sweets, sore throat sweets etc from the chemist - they have no special curative properties. Just buy boiled sweets to suck - its the saliva that you produce when you eat them rather than the sweets themselves that soothe your throat.

Ditto Lucozade Energy drink - if you need an 'instant energy' drink - replicate Lucozade by buying a packet of glucose from any chemist and add a teaspoon to a glass of own brand lemonade - you'll get litres for pence.

Read the labels on everything - lots of products are marketed in a way that make them seem unique and special- e.g.Nurofen tablets - these are expensive but Nurofen is just one of the brand names for Ibuprofen , which is identical generic form of the same drug and can be bought at all supermarkets very cheaply.
  • I dont buy branded cold and flue cures. My local chemist told me years ago when I became diabetic to squeeze the juice and grate the rind form a lemon add hot water and a sweetner to taste take with two parecetemol tablets every four hours this has worked a treet for me for years. If you look on the packets of cold and flu cures these are the main ingredients. If I make too much lemon juice I freeze it and use it up in cooking when I feel better.

I took my daughter to the GP for a persistant cough that she had for 3 weeks and was told they wnt give her cough medicine. I was told to take her home and give her honey. She is only 5 and although it did not cure her cough it helped to sooth her throat.

Printers also advise that you use their brand of paper (Premium for best quality) instead of buying cheap reams of Tesco Value stuff.

I was told a while back when a printer maintenance guy came to service the printers in the office, that we shouldn't use the cheap paper because it causes chalk/dust build up on the rollers etc of the printer and can reduce the life of the printer.

That's true, but there's no reason you have to buy the premium stuff - the 'ordinary' (in tesco terms the one between value and finest) paper is decent enough quality not to cause problems.

I've been printing labels at work. Had stock of Avery labels, so used them, even though the printer kept jamming and mis feeding - very frustrating with over 6000 labels to print! When the stock of Avery labels ran out, I brought some 'Nice day' labels - they ran like a dream! Won't be spending my bosses hard earned money on expensive labels any more......
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
  • I always compare drugs at the supermarket etc. Nearly all branded remedies have a non name alternative. Its simply a case of checking ingredients.

I only use half a table in my washing machine after reading it on here and everything works just fine.

I use book swapping site "read it swap it" to feed my book addiction. I basically swap books with other people and get a new book for the cost of postage.

  • I can't do with washing my hair twice. However, I have dry hair.

Actually I find it's better if I only shampoo every other time I wash my hair, and only use conditioner the other time.
Actually its not better, overwashing your hair stimulates it to produce more oils

Not sure if anyone's put this yet, but when using cotton wool to apply skincare products (e.g make-up remover, toner) I always wet the cotton wool first. This way you use less product, so it lasts longer! :T
