Love-a-bargain wrote: »If you're out at a pub and you're not drinking alcoholic drinks (maybe designated driver?) then a soda water and lime is a cheap option rather than paying out pounds for orange juices and fizzy colas etc. After all, it's only fizzy water really. My local charges only **25p** for a half a soda water and lime (the soda comes out of that tap thing they use) and the lime is one shot of cordial. Its not many places you can get a drink that cheap these days! Happy xmas everyone x
Can I just add a word of warning here? Always do as Love-a-bargain suggests, remember to ask for soda water and lime in that order - last year I asked for lime and soda...I got lime and cider    which tasted absolutely foul! (I've been in recovery for almost 4 years so it was really upsetting especially when the barmaid questioned why I wanted to change it then laughed when my companion told her  ).0 -
Don't forget that many printers have software which checks the cartridge, and is easily fooled if you replace a part-used one. On my HP printers, the trick for resetting is to run a couple of empty cartridges through the replacement cycle before installing a full one - the software keeps a record of the last 3 cartridges - then you'll get a reasonably true reading of ink level (none are superbly accurate).0

[Using common sense instead of use-by dates]
Which makes not exceeding the use-by date even more important - and also using common sense if the food is looking 'off'' before the use-by date.Hear, hear! If people did that instead of blindly trusting labels, there would be far fewer food-poisoning cases.
In theory, that's a good point, but it assumes the date label is truthful. Anyone who's ever worked in a supermarket knows that labels can be faked.Eco Miser

I'd like to offer the following independent printing tips:-
<snip first 5 points>
6. Ink Jets are hugely mechanical and therefore likely to break down in time. Laser printers are far more economical after the initial outlay and will last much longer as there far less moving parts.
I hope this advice helps you have happy printing!
Oh, and yes it is a conspiracy! Ha Ha!......... Buy a laser printer!
Laser printers are also hugely mechanical, all those feed rollers, and photosensitive drums, and fuser pressure rollers and toner delivery systems (in the cartridges).
They also have bottles of silicone oil (or is this just some models) and expensively heated fuser units.
In contrast inkjets have a paper feed and transverse carriage drive (both highly accurate) and a precision drilled head, with NO moving parts inside (unless you count the vibrations of the piezo crystal in Epsons)Eco Miser

Ignore all 'use by' and 'sell by' dates. Use your eyes, nose and commonsense.
Compared with peope like me, brought up in the War years, people nowadays are far too 'exquisite' - and pay a high price in the shops for it.
I agree with you, I have drunk milk two days after the use by date and it has done me no harm, I have also eaten crisps & biscuits a few days after the best before date. Yum Yum
Like good food and drink?
Try Hotel Chocolat and Baileys.

that reminds me I used to get very strange looks at work when someone attempted to chuck out my peanut butter that was 3months out of date and I stopped them :rotfl:by the time I finished the jar it was 5mths OOD and I didn't get ill :cool:0 -

Best Before products can be eaten months, or even years past the date on the pack. The date given is just a guide to consuming it at it's best, after that date the quality can begin to fade, but still remain edible, that is the point of calling it "Best Before..."We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -
Whenever I make anything using a recipe I always shave a few (or more) grams off each of the ingredients. It makes no difference at all to how it comes out but saves bits here and there so things last longer.
With washing machine tablets/powder/conditioner, I use a quarter of the recommended dosage and everything comes out clean and nice smelling stil. I also always wash at 30 degrees, not 40 like they recommend.
To save on washing up liquid I squirt some on the sponge/cloth rather than in the bowl...it lasts just as long, you just don't use as much!
When using shampoo/conditioner I don't rince twice....just the once is enough for me
I can't think of anything else right now, although I'm sure there probably are more things I do!

The 'instructions' on mobile phone answering machines costs us millions (collectively) and earns the mobile companies millions (or tens of?)
Basically you ring up and they delay you while paying for the premium mobile rate.
Typical dalay tactics include:
'This is the voicemail retrieval system for' (well you know that you've just rang it..)
"0.......7.......8..........0........." Dragging the number out for as long as possible. And didn't you ring the stupid number in the first place so the only reason they are repeating it back to you is because you're paying for the call.
"If you would like to re-record your message" even played when it's not the mobile phone owner who's ringing - again why?
Any many more - I've normally hung up at the first hint of a machine to be honest..0 -
I learned this secret over 20 years ago:
Taking a small dose of CIDER VINEGAR each day completely prevents COLDS & SORE THROATS. It has worked perfectly for me for well over 20 years (and my wife too!) so I put the info on a little web site https://www.rusmus.f9.co.uk
I HOPE LOTS OF FOLKS WILL GET THE SAME BENEFIT.0
