I got veneers on my two front teeth two years ago and love them! my teeth were a bit uneven and I also had a filling in the front which would discolour quickly. My gum was also a bit uneven so one looked longer than the other. (Not as horrible as it sounds as it was probably only me that noticed! ) They are not ultra white now - just match the rest of my teeth. What a boost to confidence it is though. About £250 each I think

I had veneers done some years ago (privately/with dental ins co) i had them as my front teeth were wearing and it was suggested that veneers would support my own teeth and strengthen them. It was a disaster. From the time I had them fitted I developed an ache up the side of my nose and up into my forehead. X-rays and repeated visits - dentist say nothing wrong - suggested ROOT CANAL (on a tooth that was healthy ??) despite me saying that if i applied pressure to the front right tooth the ache/pain in my face went away...After 3 yrs of this i went to another dentist (private) for a second opinion - he confirmed that it was the way the veneer was sitting - it was pressing on the next tooth and causing pressure etc (and the color was dayglo white - i refused to smile in any pic after seeing one not long after veneers were fitted- they were the centerpice of the pic!!)
I ened up having to have crowns - two front teeth at a cost of £990 (and that was on Denplan !!!!!!)
If its for purely cosmetic reasons I'd say not - as I know what can happen ...get your teeth professionaly bleached instead ...
    not being pessemistic BUT ....

Thank you all for the advice.

My front teeth are ok apart from the fact they look shorter than the rest, not drastically so, but I am concious of it. I really don't want to have them "sanded" down for veneers or crowns, so maybe having them built up with white filling might be the answer for me.

    Thank you

As part of the character-forming treats you get after shingles, I get muscle spasm in my jaw, and have 2 non-cosmetic veneers on front teeth I damaged because of this.

One of them has fallen off 3 times, and I would never dare to use them for biting. As the expert says, why destroy healthy enamel?

I hate my veneers, and the knowledge that they won't wear well.

    Hi,

I am having one veneer on my front tooth and my dentist is charged me £600 + £50 (colour match) for it.

Now is this about right as I've read on the web that prices start from £300?

The only thing wrong with my tooth is that the bottom corner has gone transparent, so the veneer is just covering it.

Am I being ripped off, as I'm thinking of cancelling and getting my money back?!

I was a very lucky and didn't pay for mine as I used to model and they needed someone with rubbish teeth to do before and after pics but mine would have cost around £500 per tooth - expensive but well worth it!

The +£50 colour match bit seems a bit odd to me. Why don't they just say £650? If you pay just £600, do you get one of a random colour??

Why do they think that corner of your tooth has gone transparent? Is it because it's wearing away at the back? If so - they need to be careful, as if wear is going on, veneers fracture - they don't wear.

The actual price sounds about right - I'm just a bit dubious about the 'marketing'!

erique - I assume they told you that veneers are not a 'once only' treatment and that they will deteriorate and need re-doing every 8-10 years or so? I would have a savings pot ready for when it's necessary.

Veneering is a quick way to make teeth look all 'Holywood' but it does have consequences. The major one is that you will take teeth that may look a bit peculiar, but are essentially healthy and have the potential to last you a lifetime with little maintenance, and turning them into porcelain-clad monuments that will need a fair bit of maintenance over the rest of your life.

Be sure that the result you want is worth the cost. (Dental - not monitary)
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

    Hey Toothsmith!

Thanks for the concern, athough I was not naive enough to just let them turn my teeth into 'porcelain-clad monuments' (love that phrase :D ) without prior consideration!

I had always hated my teeth and had been saving up for the procedure before I'd got the job. Plus one of my closest friends has just qualified as a dentist and by the time I need them replacing she would have finished her cosmetics training and will do them at mates rates for me!
