  • I'm sure I'm not the first to feel like this. Basically I moved out of home and in with my boyfriend 8 months ago. We both work full time and I am also studying part time in my 'spare time' (what ever that is!). We only have a small house and there is only the two of us but I feel like its always a complete mess and loads of jobs i.e.washing, ironing piling up around me! My boyfriend has an hours comute each way to work which I know is not that strange any more and although I work 9-5 most days i have to do late nights (7ish), on-call nights and weekend work on a rota system. We live over an hour away from our family and friends which means we seem to be away fairly often on weekends (and all christmas) but on the plus side no one can drop in unanounced and see how we're struggling.

I have a week off in january after a busy christmas and new year and want to completly clean the house from top to bottom and do all the jobs I never seem to have time to do. After that I would love to get into a routine to keep on top of the chores, find time to do all the study I need to do and also have some free time to relax or spend time with my partner, family or friends. Does any one have any tips/solutions that work? old school or otherwise

Cooking wise I don't think we do too bad. I enjoy cooking and make most things from scratch and then freeze them. Our weekly shop varieys from £30 or less on quiet weeks to up to £50 on top up weeks (i think we spend less than £200 a month). But any time saving tips appreciated.

    Thanks
Mortgage as of Feb 2015 - £153000 (30 years left on term). Aiming to be morgage free in 20 years or less.

    Hi ladies!

Waiting for the decorator to come back - he rang to say he can't come back til Weds now, so the house will have to stay in upheaval for now.

Home help substitute (mine usual lady is on holiday) turned up 90 mins early and I was still in bed and I feel like I left half my brain there despite having been up for hours now. Too many late nights in a row.

    Daily list
Spray shower and curtain with bleach spray
feed cat at least twice cat.gif
file 10 peices of paper from desk
    Spend an hour doing reviews
    Dust TV and phone tv.gif
spend 30 mins sorting photos for reviews
read and delete 10 emails at least
Spend an hour doing click thrus

    Extras:
sort out chequebook - avoiding this one as usual
make the last few Christmas cards
    write Christmas cards
Write and check Christmas gift list
    finish tescos order

Have a good day flying, ladies!

got a bit done in the spare room, then we had a visitor, thenn DD wanted her christmas party, she is having to miss the one in school today, so picnic lunch made an balloons blown up. think i will let her pull one of her crackers later as she is also missing out on Father Christmas with a little gift. She is itching now, so more calamine lotion applied and piriton administered as per the pharmacies instructions.
Think a cuppa is due then see what else i can do....

oh, and have decided to have her birthday party on the weekend of the 10/11th Jan as it gives me more time to arrange and more kids prob able to come rather than between Christmas and new year

  • Just a quick hello....DH did the bathroom yesterday so I'm going for a lie down this afternoon while DD2 is in bed...still recovering from this flu thing that's going around. Got to work tonight so a lie down is definately in order today.

Top of the agenda for this week is to sort out DD2's party (and make the house look presentable for it!)...we're having a few toddlers round on Friday lunch time for a play and lunch and to sing happy birthday...trying to do it before the big ones finish school so its not too chaotic even though its not her birthday 'til the 23rd.

Hope you're feeling better soon PF...not sure what you've decided to do..(only skimmed the thread) but hope you've stayed off...get yourself better or you'll still be ill in January!

Hugs to Lil'me as well...thinking of you & your family.

    See you later.

  • This is what i use to do when I worked full time......

As soon as I had a load of washing it went in the washer and dried it either on hangers or on radiators. Drying it this way I found I didn't always have to iron stuff. Lower your expectations with ironing, I hardly iron a thing now :o but I always think most stuff neds ironing 10 minutes after it's been worn so why bother?!

Tidy up clutter as soon as it starts to appear, otherwise I'd find myself spending a hour putting stuff away a hour before I wanted to dust, which I did once a week. Hoovering I did once a week too.

Clean the bathroom quickly each day/every other day. I used to wipe the sink and surrounding areas whilst brushing my teeth for example, so a big clean was never necessary.

I still follow these "guides" now I'm a SAHM. I read flylady to get a few tips then adapted it to suit me. I just make sure I'm on top of the washing and do most other cleaning jobs once a week. Get your boyfriend in on it too, you're both working hard so don't let him get away with not doing anything. Assign him jobs to do in the evenings or weekends or set up a rota if you think that'd suit you more. HTH :)

I think another HHC is in order. Anyone joining me 2-2.30?
Should be able to get the place looking a bit more presentable with this one. Hopefully it'll survive the kiddy invasion later lol.
