Christmas Dinner (preparing in advance)

Just wondering what everyone is doing today, or has already done, to prepare for Christmas Day?
So far I've made:
Chestnut stuffing to be baked on the day
Bread sauce
Braised red cabbage with apples (Delia recipe)
tomorrow will mainly consist of peeling and chopping the veg!
What? It's only Thursday, Christmas day is two days away.
I will do all my prep and cooking on the day it takes minutes to do.
The starter can be made part way through the morning, the veg prepped and the meat put in the oven with trimmings and veg cooked at appropriate times along the way.
Bread sauce has to be done fresh on the day.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
Hi
Asked a neighbour to buy a bag sprouts. Too cold to go out.Sealed Pot Challenge No 089-Finally got a signature.:rotfl::j0 -
got my stuffing in the oven as i type, will be making mince pies later or tomorrow and tomorrow will be peeling and chopping the veg and possibly making the gravy!!!
will be getting the chicken out the freezer tomorrow morning too - yes i know, not very christmassy but we can't justify the expense of buying a turkey when there is only 3 of us and none of us really like it anyway!!0 -
Turkey was cooked yesterday, today it's cooled, sliced, packed into portion sized bags and popped into the freezer.
Sat morn take out number required, (any surprise guests easily delt with, take out another pack).
Stuffing mixed into balls and frozen also.
Turkey carcass in SC for stock for gravy, pigs in blankets rolled, bagged waiting in freezer.
All tickkedy boo here, wrapped and ready for the Man in Red.C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z # 40 spanner supervisor. No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thought.Only after the last tree has been cut down. Only after the last fish has been caught. Only after the last river has been poisoned. Only then will you realize that money cannot be eaten."l! ilyë yantë ranya nar vanwë"0 -
nothing - I will prep some veg tomorrow but I prefer everything cooked fresh on the day and as it mostly involves taking things in and out of the oven at various times I don't really find it too tiresome!
Though I must take my sasuagemeat out of the freezer todayPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

This is mainly how I feel. Prepping veg for a roast lunch isn't too big a deal, and its pretty formulaic cooking IMO, about as easy as ''big'' meals get. Pudding is taken care of, just needs to be steamed. Starter I'll do tomorrow evening (a mousse) while in the kitchen for tomorrow's cooking. I'm not regretting getting stuff done and in the freezer (mainly started because I saw a great whoopsie on bacon and sausages at Waitrose and thought I could put the pigs in their blankets, freeze them and it would cost pennies!) Also, because we have thanksgiving I made the cranberry sauce then and froze, so not an extra job.0 -

I bought ready assembled pigs in the blankets this year - they were whoopsies 'Extra Special' ones and cheaper than making myself so why not!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Took the sausage meat out of the freezer for the stuffing.
Daughter likes to wrap the bacon around the chipolatas so she will be doing that.
Will get the table ready and all set in the dining room.
And I think that's it for today!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
I have taken the turkey out the freezer along with the sausagemeat and little sausages. I am now on the hunt for a cranberry sauce recipe.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000
