I'm flipping angry and do you think they'll give me new ones?

Regulars will know that I have a stressful family. Lots of people with issues all trying to rub along as painlessly as possible. Most of the time, we get through but a little thing has just made me so mad that I'm pacing with temper. (Think straw, camel etc.) I need to get it off my chest so either read on or ignore, I'm happy either way.

I bought M&S gift vouchers for 3 family members. They are old and a little 'old school' so they prefer these vouchers and they please themselves. The arrangement suits me fine as it's so easy. The vouchers, complete with fancy gift cards and envelopes were left in my car glove compartment (accidentally I should add, I'd forgotten all about them and I've just spent ages today looking for them as I'd no idea what I'd done with them  ).

Anyway, I've just got them out the car and they are covered in Dr Pepper juice courtesy of my OH who lost his rag yesterday. Our daughter spilt her juice all over her, her car seat etc and had to be stripped. When it happened, OH completely lost his temper with her when he realised how wet she was and how much juice she'd spilt. He opened the glove compartment and literally threw the bottle in. Needless to say the lid wasn't tightened and it sprayed a little.......over the cards and enevelopes, although I didn't realise that at the time.

I was furious at him yesterday but kept my temper, and I'm furious at him all over again today since I've seen the voucher cards. I want to say lots of bad words and call him lots of bad names but I'm so damned sensible and reasonable that I wont do that as I know it's not helpful. I wish I could act in a completely unreasonable manner sometimes, it might not be the best way to solve problems but I'm sure it helps get things out your system to stomp your feet and call your OH a total ******* ******* ******! Twice! :D

So, I'm left with cards and envelopes that have juice drops over them. If it were anyone else, I wouldn't be quite so uptight about it but I just feel they would be twitchy nosed about getting stained cards & envelopes. The juice drops aren't such that they could be covered with Xmas stickers or the like, so I either give them 'as is' or see if I can replace them. Do you think M&S would sell me them by themselves? They usually come free with the vouchers etc so I dont know if just wanting the cards is feasible?

Ok, thanks guys. I'm calm now. :D

Btw, comments about my OH's temper really wont be helpful to me at the moment. Unless of course you just want to call him a bad name. That's ok. :rotfl:

  • Big Hug - sound like you need one.

I'm sure M&S would replace the cards and envelopes - did the juice mark the vouchers? I'd certainly ask them, if they say no then perhaps you LO could make your relatives a nice Christmas card and pop the vouchers in that. Most of the time the cards get thrown away so I wouldn't worry too much - it's the vouchers they are more interested in most of the time!
I won't buy it if I can make or borrow it instead
  • You can always try asking M&S or alternatively just put them in another card/envelope. You can get the person a cheap Christmas card and put them inside? Or get your kids to make a card for a personal touch?

Calm down and start thinking straight!

Get into M&S, explain the situation and I bet if you go at a time when they're not on a 20% off day, or on a weeklend, they will be more than happy to replace at least the cards, if not the vouchers too.:D

I'd be tempted to say nothing, post them off, and blame the postie if anything's said. Cards can arrive in a dreadful state if they've been out in the rain / dropped on the floor and trodden on etc.

Just take the gift card off the receipt and give it a wipe. You can make your own 'receipt' saying how much is on it and just get a cheap card to put it in :) voila

I used to work at M&S. If you came to me at the till and were polite I would happily have had no hesitation in replacing them. Probably would have to ask a manager to authorise but really only a formality. The camera people and security people might ask questions if you handed over something without taking payment and all staff know they have to be very careful, that would be the only reason why. I promise you it won't be a problem to get them replaced if you don't want to buy new cards.

Ok...get this.....been up the loft to search out the Xmas cards left over from last year as I was positive there were envelopes the perfect size. Found some! Yay!

Wiped down gift cards with a damp cloth and a small amount of Flash. Cards weren't spotless but were good enough to get away with I thought. Put them in the new envelopes and sat them at the edge of the table whilst I wrote out all the other Xmas cards I had to write.

Went to the loo and came back to find daughter had spilt juice over the lot.

    I kid you not.

I shall admit to having to quietly leave the room and spend some time alone, in my darkened bedroom, otherwise bad things might well have happened in my house today.

To top it all off, somehow the x button on my laptop has come off...it was lying loose on the top of my keyboard, with the cards that my OH picked up off the table, sitting on top. I suspect he has caught the edge of the x button with a card whilst he was lying the cards on the keyboard.

Of course, his argument is that he didn't do it. Who the hell puts cards on top of an open laptop keyboard anyway???????

World War 3 is erupting in my kitchen at the moment. OH and eldest are at war over the dishes...eldest has stormed upstairs after refusing to empty the dishwasher, OH has stormed into the living room and declared he is finished with eldest as he's had enough of his rubbish. I think I'm going to sit in a corner and cry, drink alcohol and eat chocolate...not necessarily all in that order.

*sigh* This could very well be transition phase between coupledom and singledom you know. Will you all still speak to me if I end up a single parent?

Thanks for the card advice btw. :D

Dohhh..look on the bright side, you could have lost a much used vowel instead of an "x".

I think you need to take yourself out for a little treat and leave OH to manage for a while. It'll do you good.
  • Pssst is right a vowel would have been more irritating. Don't forget that you can access the on screen keyboard by going into programmes, accessories and ease of access. That way you will still be able to type 'x'.

Gosh - juice seems to cause a lot of bother in your family

So what state are the gift cards in at the moment - are they still salvageable?

I think alcohol and chocolate are essential for days like this.;)
