Good morning,
the boy with the cold only woke me every two hours last night, and we were downstairs from 3am to 4am, but then went back to bed for another couple of hours. I think he's feeling better as he has eaten 2 smallish bowls of cornflakes this morning. I must be getting used to no sleep, as I don't feel as tired today as I did yesterday.
We're off to a party this afternoon, for one of his friend's birthdays, so before I go would like to make a loaf in the BM, make some cheese scones and get the ironing done. I'm going to make myself another cup of coffee and have a sit down first as the last coffee went cold whilst I was seeing to the cornflakes.
My tree is up and decorated, but I haven't put any other decorations up as I am short and the ceilings are high. I don't like to be up and down ladders if I don't have to be when I'm on my own here with ds. Ds has his own mini tree in his room (about 12 inches high), and a set of fairy lights on his headboard.
I've wrapped all the presents apart from the dog's biscuits, and I think I've sent all the cards that I need to.....
Take care all of you and (((hugs))) to anyone that needs them.0 -
Good Morning Akk
Had a lie in this morning sorry to all the people with babies and snoring husbands :rotfl: OH fell asleep on hte sofa last night so the bed was all mine.
Was very happy with the Strictly result - cant wait for next week.
Have got a nice day planned today - got Pork out of the freezer to have tonight. Then in a little while we are off to Audley End House as they have got a Victorian Christmas Special on. They have the 'servants' showing how the Victorians prepared the Xmas food, they are making Xmas decorations and Xmas presents. I hope its as good as it sounds.
Have put a quick wash on and think may swish the bathrooms but that will be it for today.
Off in a minute to wake DD, not sure if she wants to come today but she is being a real teenager at the moment and can be rather prone to cutting off her nose to spite her face at the moment, dont you just love them.
Have a lovely Sunday.x0 -
Monring Everyone
I am feelling much more cheerful this morning. WM & DW on. Decorated the tree and living room last night and the new coffee table looks great. It is supposed to have to whicker basket things on the bottom of it which never turned up. When I rang up it appeared they have never been sent out so have had to be reordered:mad: . Hopefully they should be here by Tuesday.
OH treated me to a chinese last night as I wasnt in the mood for cooking. Will need to make a big batch of Shepherds Pie this afternoon and sort out what OH will be eating as I am away with work for three days next week.
We are braving the Metro Centre today to get our gifts for each other and some new twinkly lights for the tree. I am hoping to get there for 10am and have a coffee before the shops open at 11am.
I want to make my mincemeat today but my jars and waxed circles dont arrive from Lakeland until next week. If I make it and put any leftovers in a couple of old jars with screw top lids and no wax circles in a dark cupboard will it be ok for a week? I will transfer it over to my new jars when they arrive with a view to saving it until next year. This will ne the first time I have made my own mincemeat.
Have a good day everyone

Morning all,
Freezing fog here, can't see much out of the window at all. We got the tree up yesterday, which looks great, and strung the cards over the old fire place in the kitchen, it does look good, but thats as much as we can do because my lounge is so tiny.
Roast chicken for dinner, with roasties and veg, I think I will do it for tea time, as dd is off out with her dad to watch footie, better make sure she wraps up warm. OH and I will get out for a long walk, and then I want to make carrot and corriander soup, and maybe some cheese scones.
I need to start wrapping presents, and do my xmas food order, and then I am ready :T , my OH loves wrapping pressies, so might get him started on that this afternoon.
Stef I always have a Johnny calander too,, as does my sister, although I once drew false beards etc on hers, cos he's mine
Hugs to all, Taplady, Smoky.
Have good days all xx0 -

Good morning everyone :hello:
Many thanks for the best wishes for my mum. She's been overwhelmed with all the support that she's had.
SC is on, with a beef stew. The smell is beginning to waft through the (miniscule) house!
It snowed last night, but only very very lightly. I'd love to be snowed in so I wouldn't have to go to school. Sadly, I don't think that's going to be possible!
Have a great day everyone! Oh and if anyone wants to attack my ironing pile, I'd be very grateful!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
I feel such a failure!!
With all the wonderful advice on this forum I have managed to change the way I do things a lot and feel that I have adopted the OS moneysaving lifestyle.
CONFESSION TIMEI have sinned ............
Yesterday was my birthday.
Mr Muppet suggested taking me out but I always hate meals out in December. They tend to be inferior to the rest of the year. Perhaps they think most people will be blathered and not notice the decline in quality/service.
I said I would rather have friends round for a meal instead.
Mr Muppet kindly said that I was not cooking on my birthday. He had been watching the M&S adverts on the TV and decided that if it was good enough for Joan Collins, M&S could do the catering with the lovely finger food shown on the adverts.
Feeling excited about the propsect of a no stress night, I trundled round M&S and put together what sounded like a real feast. AND SO IT SHOULD IT COST JUST UNDER £50 for 4 of us!
Last night arrived and I had a nice bath to get in the mood then strolled down to prepare my "no stress meal".
EEK! How do you fit everything in a normal oven? I turned into a mad whirling dervish, things on trays and in, trays out, pipe chive cream onto blinis, other things into oven, snip smoked salmon onto blinis, oringinal things gone cold. Mini beef wellingtons disgustingly soggy!!!! Brie parcels burst and running all over tray, filo pastry stuck to base, threw in bin, breaded prawns .. are they hot enough? will I kill my friends? Oh no, they are not heated through enough, throw them in bin as not safe to eat.
I would point out that I am usually pretty competant in the kitchen.
My stress free evening wasn't and I was heartbroken that Mr Muppet had so kindly funded everything.
In hindsight a few cheeses and a piece of pate would have been a better option and a darned sight cheaper. At least it would have tasted good and been at the right temperature.
Just posted this as a word of warning to those who might be thinking about paying over the odds for the sake of an easy time.
Please don't get me wrong. There is a lot of M&S food that I love and do buy as a treat but I just don't think the stress free buffet works as well as the adverts suggest.
Beans on toast today.....LOVELY!Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend0 -
Trying franticallyto get things done before driving off to Newcastle to pick up DD(19).
Washing machne is on its third load and have par boiled potatoes and parsnips ready for roasting when we get back and veg is prepared.
If DD would have given me her school uniform to wash yesterday morning, or lunchtime, or evening - or any of the times I asked then I would not be dashing round like a headless chicken now!!!
Big hug and see you all later."This site is addictive!"
