OS Daily Thread - Sunday 14th December

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 14th December. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all!!

Not so cold here this morning which is good. I couldn't get back to sleep once the OH came home so thought I would get up and deal with my back log of emails and start my day.

Essexgirl, Hester, tired mum, and sistercas - thank you for the hugs
MrsTittlemouse - the lodger is a friend whose father died so she had to sell the family house to split the money with her sister, and hasn't found anywhere else. Part of me felt like I couldn't refuse because she was going through such a horrid time. And part of me was aware that we are broke and any little extra would help! I think the biggest adjustment for my OH (apart from the morning shower schedule we now have to have in place) is the fact that he now has to remember to put underpants and a robe on every time he leaves the bedroom!!:rotfl: :rotfl:
Smoky - Hope that the little ones are better soon and you get chance to wind down a little.

The first of course being Jonny Depp xx

Well actually for me, it's a competition between Donny Osmond (my first love *blush*) or David Tennant as Dr Who.. something about the cheeky grin.. Johnny Depp does nothing for me at all..

To all those of you kind enough to ask - I had an email from Tristan - his family have whisked him away for a few days break.

Not sure I did anything OS yesterday except make some more christmas cards and plan a bit of the Christmas menus so I could get the tescos order sorted. Today I plan to ask the OH to get the tree and decorations down from the loft, but it depends how tired he is and if he has things planned. If not we will do it on Monday which is fine - be nice to have something special to do. We do have a small problem though, I have 6 baskets of hyacinth and narcissi dotted around the lounge so not entirely sure where the decorations can go..

Roast pork for dinner later today with lots of crackling... Mmmm mmmm.

Hope everyone has a lovely relaxing Sunday.
Anyway, smileyhug.gifto everyone who needs them today, and getwell.gifto everyone who is under the weather.

    Morning Early Diva.

I woke up at about 4, but there was no way I am going to get in the habit of getting out of bed at that time. I feel asleep last night at 9 and I wanetd to watch Match of the day....fat chance!
It snowed last night:snow_grin Only a dusting, but it's white and with the full moon looks very nice out there. Covered up the mud anyway. I did not think any was forcast, but there you go.

Church later and then invited out for lunch after, so easy day. I shall get home and light the fire after that and watch some TV and Top Gear.

Managed most of the Christmas shopping yesterday, still some things to find, but I have the big bulky things. Just as well I see prices for some games consols are rising daily!

Coffe pot is on and I shall get the paper later with the free choir CD in it.... Cheers folks

Good morning, all. Had a bad night's sleep so feeling a bit tired. It's been ages since that's happened and I think it's because my mind won't switch off - too much to think about! Anyway, we got the decorations done yesterday - it seemed to take all day because of interruptions and sit-downs with cuppas! They look great, though, so I'm pleased it's all done. I've just switched all the lights on and it looks so Christmassy now.

Wasn't the weather dreadful yesterday? We had constant rain but I can't grumble because the floods in Devon and Cornwall looked awful and, further up north, they have severe weather warnings so I think we've got off lightly. Hope no-one is havng problems.

(((Hugs))) to all those in need - such a lot of sadness, anxiety and illness lately.

Dinner today is roast with some pork chops, pots, carrots and broccoli; we'll have that at lunchtime and then I'm making an apple pie to have with custard for tea.

Strictly ended on a real high for me yesterday; I was worried that Tom was going to be voted off but the programme makers surprised us all by saying that all three couples are through to the final next week. My DH, who has enjoyed this series, tried to act as if he could take it or leave it but I could tell he was delighted at the outcome. For some reason - and I know it's unfair - I just can't take to Lisa Snowdon, even though her dancing has really improved, but Tom has been consistently good since the start and I felt it would have been unfair if he'd gone home before her! I'll be happy if Rachel or Tom wins overall. Anyway, it's been a great series so far.

Well, I'd better go and have my shower.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday.

    Morning all

I'm up early to test whether yesterday's hangover is sufficiently over for me to face primark this morning with the girls. I have to buy shoes which is my least favourtie activity but my trusty doc martens have split after five years.

I note that there has been some mention of Johnny Depp - well ladies I'm afraid he's top of MY christmas list this year and santa knows I've been a very very good girl this year - Although not that good so I'll probably only get another calendar again.

While I was laid up in a self inflicted way yesterday my wonderful dd(23) cleaned the house from top to bottom so today's plans are a bit of a swish and swipe to keep on top of things and a rumage in the freezer for tea

    have a good day
I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 2008
  • Morning all,

Went christmas shopping yesterday and got nothing I just hate the busyness of it, I think ill go dusing the week. Last day at uni on tuesday we have exams:eek:  Phamacology.

I wants JLS to win the x factor last night, but we all know alex would win. Not sure whats for dinner today but my kids have said that they do not want a roast, so i might go for h/m soup.

Morning everyone and thanks for all the nice messages you are such nice people on here. My friends are getting over the shock of losing their dear mum it sounded awful. The pm is Monday but the funeral may not be until the 22nd!! this sounds such a long time. Here in Ireland a young neighbour only 22 died the same day of a brain haemorrage and has already been buried its over here in about 3 days tops! Anyway enough of the bad stuff. With DH still in blighty my DS's x2 helped me get the decs from the loft and we have decorated the tree so that will be a nice surprise for him on his return. OS wise have made yet more mince pies and hob nobs and will ice the cake today and rummage in the freezer as only 3 for dinner today. DD will be working her one day a week so I will have to take her out around 9. We had lots of snow yesterday so Im hoping once it gets light it will melt a little, as the old landrover has squeaky disks at the mo. Anyway hope you are all well as I didnt get on yesterday at all. Big hugs to all who need them and thanks again peeps. x

    Morning all

Put the tree and decorations up yesterday so it's looking all Christmassy here now :j

A meal for a tenner chicken and veg from M&S for dinner today. Am up early so will fit in some hobnobs in the oven before chicken goes in. Haven't got round to using my BM this week so will put that on after dinner too.

Am going to take my life in my hands and go to Bluewater tomorrow for some last little bits and see what they have in the bargain department.

Regarding Johnny Depp, yea I wouldn't kick him out of bed but you can't beat the smile and the voice of gorgeous George Clooney :T The new coffee advert with him in it is a very welcome additon to all the other rubbish adverts that you have to sit through while waiting for your programme to come back on.
    Christmassy hugs to all

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
just like the ones I used to know
    where the treetops glisten

    and children listen
to hear sleigh bells in the snow

In my calendar today – a robin :santa2:

Tru do you eat your advent chocolate before breakfast? I do and then i want to eat chocolate all day long :D
Breakfast first, then choc. It was a rule for the kids when they were younger and I thought I’d better do the same – set a good example and all that. It kinda stuck and I still do it now :D

We told master tru to choose what to watch on tv last night. Bad move – he chose X Factor  When will people stop doing gymnastics with their voices, and just SING instead of warbling  Then he wanted to watch Girls Aloud, he said we could mute the sound, he wasn’t bothered about the music, he was happy to just watch them :rotfl:

The tree's up and looks great :T Master tru wants to sort out the ceiling decs, but has given me permission to do the fireplace, shelves etc while he's at work, lol.

There's one load of washing to do and that's all the housework done :D We want to visit our friends and their new baby today, then we'll probably just laze around and watch a film.

    Morning all,

Been up since about 5  And on a Sunday too!

Have not kept up with the thread at all this week, so hope all is well.

So far, I've had a washload on, done the washing up, changed the bed and had a shower. Cause of the cheap rate electric - I am currently using £25 a week in electric, which makes me want to faint. Think I will ask my landlady if I can change from EDF - they charge me £2 a week just to use my key meter

Got the tree up yesterday - bought a real one, which smells lurvely, and got a nice wreath for the front door as well. Going to wrap my Gran's Xmas pressies today, it is the only present I have finished atm. Could go and get my brother's/cousins present (alcohol) but seeing as DVLA have lost my driving licence :mad  I have no ID.

No Ebay listings for today, will leave it until the start of Feb now.

Hope you all have a good day
