I put my DD outside (she was a Jan baby) and a visitor commented about how unusual it was! She's13 in Jan - so maybe I was the last mum ever to do this...

am still trying to get rid of the smell - it is a lot fresher when I bring it from airing outside but stinks again by the morning :(

will have to give some of the products you mention a try when I can get to the bigger town with more shops - there's not much choice here

Tell us what you HAVE tried then ...please

I was just thinking the other day that you seldom see babies outside in their prams. In fact you seldom see babies being pushed out for a proper "walk" only being pushed around stores. I have also noticed loads of tiny babies propped up in buggies with nowhere near enough clothes on. Mums are done up in Ugg boots, thick coats and scarves and poor little mites are gloveless, hatless and don't even get a blanket over them!

:( I made a point of getting a buggy which laid flat like a pram because I hate seeing tiny babies slouched in buggies or curled up in their car seats. When we go out for walks though I tend to take him in the sling because you can't seem to get buggies/prams which lay flat and face the parent with decent enough suspension to go off-road any more. He is lovely and cosy in there!

i have a big silvercross pram and my baby was put in the garden to sleep over the summer! he will only sleep in his cot now and his pram is for sitting up and looking at evrything! will get lots of use as new baby due in 7 weeks so looking for toddler seat to go on the top. we have just moved to a little village and everyone always comments on how nice it is to see a 'real' pram!

as for the smell i cant think of anything other than the suggestions mentioned already. only alternative would be to buy new hood, lining and covers. there a a few restorers and breakers on ebay? hope you get it sorted soon and get to enjoy your pram:D

Hello, I have been given a wonderful chair that is in near perfect condition the only problem is there is a very strong smell of cigarette smoke that is proving to be very stubborn to remove, I can smell it when I walk into the room. I have tried steaming it and a light scrub with soda crystals and stardrops, but its just not shifting. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Can you stick it outside to air, every time the weather's warm?
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Neutradol air freshener is really good at getting rid of the smell of cigarette smoke in fabric

you could try febreze it's good for getting rid of smells, but it you want a more OS way try shaking some bi-carb powder all over it and leave it over night then vacuum it off in the morning.

I second the bicarb. My sister gave me lovely bentwood chair from IKE@ for the kids' playroom, and it stank of smoke. 2 days outside covered in bicarb then a good vacuum sorted it out!
