Hi, it will probably disapear soon. I know what you mean as my Mum smokes and you can really smell it when you don't smoke yourself.
A couple of weeks ago I bought my birthday present from her house to mine and could smell smoke but it did disapear.
Try the waiting game first.

Thank you all lots for the ideas,
I still have it hanging in loft atm but dont think that would be good for it long term!
I shall try some of the ideas you all have suggested!0 -
Not sure if this is the right place to post but need some advice.
I have a three seater sofa, which has sadly come to smell quite bad due to ex boyfriend heavily smoking. The smell is VERY ingrained and strong.
It is currently in storage, but I'm hoping to bring it out to put in our flat. The smell from it when you open the storage door is immense. Ugh.
How can I clean it? My OH has an very sensitive sense of smell, and cannot abide smokingI thought of hiring a rug doctor but there is not a hire place close to me, and I don't drive to pick one up. Also considered Febreeze, but I really don't think it will be strong enough. I also have to think of how I get it to dry.
Any thoughts?0 -
I would pay for a professional to clean it, they have all of the specialist cleaning liquids for most stains and smells which are very expensive to buy.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I probably should also mention that money is pretty tight atm...
How much does that kind of service cost?0 -
Hi Morganarla,
Try this thread for ideas:

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

My usual suggestion for smells is bicarbonate of soda. You'd need quite a lot so buy in bulk - try soap / bath bomb making sites on the internet. Sprinkle it all over, try to really get into the cracks, under cushions etc and leave it for a good long time - at least a few days ideally. Vaccuum it all up - you may need to borrow / hire a really good vaccuum for that part to get it all out. Let it air for as long as you can - a bit of sun would probably help, but unlikely at this time of year, and it should remove most if not all the smell. As it's been sitting for a while, you may need to repeat it, or you may find that the smell may have gotten into crevices you can't get at, in which case you may end up needing a professional clean after all...Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0

A dear friend has come to the rescue - she is getting a brand new steam cleaner on Monday, so I can borrow it to clean sofa on Saturday! Wahoo!
At least steam cleaning will get the worst off and then I can try the bicarb thing afterwards to help as well.
Thanks for the replies and the merge of threads, much appreciated.0 -
Here are some other ways. soak some cotton kitchen towels and hang them on the door in all rooms. Wet towels quickly absorb cigarette odor. In the room where the smokers smoked, it is desirable to remove the curtains and wash them. If there is a cushion sofas, they can also be extend or even hang ventilated.
Floors should also rinse with water, you want to add ammonia. This will also help eliminate the odor of cigarettes.
There is another very effective way. You can take the most ordinary bay leaf and set fire to it in the ashtray (washed from the ashes). Smoke from laurel interrupts the smell of cigarette smoke. That's it in a sheet with a smoking ashtray must walk through all the rooms, fumigate them. Very quickly, the smell of tobacco will be over.0
