It's all semantics
get the 15w40 or 15w50.
My understanding = 5w30 is 5 when warm, 30 when cold, thus a thicker oil will help the more worn engine.
This is true.
I had a, high mileage, Vauxhall Senator which always showed low oil pressure on semi synthetic 15W/40. A switch to £4.50 a gallon 20W/50 improved it markedly.0 -

any concensus? when you consider my make/model/age of car? thank you.0

I use a 10/40 semi synthetic, havoline at about £15 for 5 litre. The first number deals with the oil when cold, the second number when it's hot.
When it's cold, the 10/40 has a better performance when starting, ie it pumps around the engine a lot quicker than a 15/40 or 15/50, which is thicker at low temperatures. As the oil is thinner, economy is allegedly better. The UK never gets warm enough to worry about the top end, so either the 10/40 or 15/50 is good enough then

Oh God!!! help me!!!. Sorry, not being pedantic: was that a typo? 10w40 or 15w50? I worry for my poor engine:(
For 10 year old Fiesta it really doesn't matter too much. The 20W/50 from Asdoz will be fine. Like I said at the beginning the important thing is changing it regularly.0 -
Asda do their own branded semi synthetic motor oil 10W/40. Specification API SL/CF, ACEA A3, B3, B4.
Check your manual. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

:rotfl:OMG! Maybe a typo?:o OK, so it doesn't really matter all that much from what you all are saying, and given mikey's info 10w/40 sounds good? Thank You all:)0 -
