System downloaded update which required restart, on opening back up internet explorer does not find any pages. Firefox is fine though. But not a sausage from ie, have already downloaded ie7 again but still nothing.
I'd appreciate any help you can offer.
Thanks

  • Try doing a system restore to before you installed the update. See if it works and then try the update again.

don't have system restore turned on so this isn't an option as far as I can see.

oops....that is a problem, you can't "roll back" to a known good state. restore doesn't create problems, it (sometimes) gives a solution to them :(
Not the advice you want, but, I dont use IE (haven't for years), if firefox works, stick with it. maybe install the ietab extension and try that for those badly written pages

I haven't come across this one before. What are you getting on IE7? Page Cannot Be Displayed error?

Basic, silly question - have you scanned for viruses?

Totally, "no idea what's causing this" suggestion: how about downloading the IE8 Beta and see if that works? If it does, fine. If not you've lost nothing.

its not a virus, what firewall do you use?
    not zonealarm by any chance?
if you do then you need to tell zonealarm to allow ie to go thru the firewall
    i had the same issue

if its a different firewal, i would hazard aguess that it is a similar sort of thing
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)

Not sure if I am running a firewall at the moment how do I check which are active?
