My dh informed his CO that we are looking to book a holiday in Cuba, they all thought it wasnt a problem, we didnt look into it further, may be we should have. Anyhow, we booked it on Friday (tesco vouchers!) and now his CO today said he thinks that it is a problem. Of course we cant get hold of anyone to ask. Do any of you lovely lot know?! I just feel sick at the thought of maybe losing all those vouchers.

At the height of the cold war, I visited a weapons research facility. They mentioned that one of their whizz kids always went on holiday to Bulgaria, then part of the Soviet alliance. So I can't imagine that Cuba would in fact present any problems now.
Anyway, least said soonest mended.0 -
Speak to your local police flight, they will be able to advise you on where you can and where you cant go in the world.0

My dh informed his CO
sounds like army not RAF. He'll need to contact his HR dept or if they can't help is there any int corps where he works? (no point in asking RMP as they don't have a CI section or any common sense, lol)
however, i have not heard of cuba been on a prohibited list.0 -
Thank you everyone for your replies! I think we will probably be ok, dh is hoping to speak to someone today as yesterday no-one was around - typical!!0

In this day and age it is no business of his CO where you go on holiday...
Indeed even at the height of the troubles I would travel on leave to Norn Iron without bothering to tell anyone..
And a chap that works for me has just spent his honeymoon in Cuba.{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -
My friend is in the Army and went to Cuba earlier this year. Just approach your local security section to receive the mandatory brief.
Your CO is not the one that makes up the current travel regulations, otherwise there'd be chaos across the military.
Have a good holiday!0 -
Depending on what security clearances he holds, Cuba may be off-limits, though these days they usually give permission if you are on a package holiday with other Brits. They can be iffy about independent travel.0

Just don't tell them where you are going.{Signature removed by Forum Team}0

sorry, but that is very bad advice.
It may just be a brief he requires, or he may be told no need to inform. but definately better to find out.0 -
there is a website that tells you what countrys are not good to visit if your from the uk (its a uk gov site) but I can't find it
I found this though that might be of interest
http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travelling-and-living-overseas/travel-advice-by-country/north-central-america/cuba/If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0
