  • Why not read the papers online for nothing? I only ever buy a paper now if I see something in the newspaper thread on here which needs a token - saves you a fortune :D

I've stopped buying daily papers, and weekly papers, and magazines, and even books so really the local paper is my only reading material 'luxury' that I have got left. DH also reads it too, so there's two of us getting use out of something that costs 45p. maybe I should just cancel delivery, which is 10p per day? However as the mother of a child who earns his money from a paper-round, then if everyone had the same idea my kid would be out of a job and costing me £4 per week more.

DH had an e-mail today from the job he was interviewed for last Wednesday saying he'd been unsuccessful. I'm gutted as I'm so desperate for him to get another job and some security.

To add insult to injury half of his tooth has fallen out and although it's not hurting it looks a right mess. He doesn't have an NHS dentist. We don't have any savings and I have promised myself I wont spend on the credit cards out of respect to mum and dad paying them off for me. WHY OH WHY DO I HAVE TO BE SO CRAP WITH MONEY??? I could cry when I think about how much I have spent on rubbish! Printer is also telling me it's low on coloured ink which I can't afford to buy right now either.

I've photographed and written up the jeans, wii game and celebrity slim shakes (got £22 of them, so they should fetch at least £1 each), but am waiting until later on this evening to list them. My thinking is there's nothing on the telly on Sunday anymore, so likely that there are more bored people browing e-bay thus more chance of last minute bids.

Will definitely give some thought to growing our own veggies though.

Found out today that I had accidentally put in an overtime (pay) claim for 4 hours @ double time, rather than a day in lieu when I worked a bank holiday, so that should be about £50 extra but I don't know if I will get it in my June wage or July. Hopefully June, and then I can get a good "emergency money" stash all at once.

On the job front I'm frustrated that things are moving so slowly, hanging around waiting for closing dates as well as agencies who promise the earth and don't deliver. I'm trying not to get anxious but I'm not very good at not worrying.

Still haven't heard anything from the Job Seeker's allowance but they did say up to 12 days (and it was only last Thursday). Still no redundancy pay (although they did say within two weeks, so it looks like they are making us wait the full two weeks, the stingy gits).

I won the bonus ball lottery at work this week, lovely number 12 came in. However as it was won last week (a 6 week rollover, boo hoo) I'll only get about £14 but it's better than nothing. To add insult to injury the girl who collects, didn't actually collect for last week so she has to go round and collect off everyone before I can get paid out. GRRR. Very annoying!

posted an application form off for DH today - chuffing 61p for a large letter stamp!!!! What a rip off. Luckily the other one was in walking distance so I saved myself some dosh there. Hope it's worth it in that he gets an interview (or 2).

Off to read Hypno's diary, page 40 now, part 1 LOL. Very inspiring if you haven't read it.

(just checked e-bay: 4 x watchers of the Wii game but no watchers or bids on either pair of jeans although the boyfriend jeans have had 4 views, and the bootcut 2).

Hello IF. just had a read of yor diary, sounds like you are having a bit of a roller coaster with your DH job situation. Keep your chin up, it will all work out soon enough. perhaps he needs someone with fresh eyes to look at his applications and do some interview coaching with him as well. tough employment market right now, need to make sure you have best chance and all that? Perhaps he knows someone quite successful who could help?

  • Hi Miss KJ. His old HR Manager said she would see him for some interview techniques, I'll have to remind him about that and the job he got turned down for, he's e-mailed to ask for feedback. Thanks for posting

  • Dh went for another job interview and they said they would hope to let him know tomorrow. It's not in IT and it's a good £12-£15k LESS than what he was doing but my motto is low money is better than no money and he could continue to look for work.

My mum and dad asked me nicely to hurry up with the final total for my credit cards as they are wary of having so much money lurking in their current account (ID fraud victims) so I rang up for balances and they have written me cheques. Grand total is £11235, which is still horrendous but about £800 less than I expected. They've also paid off my additions catalogue and the remainder of an old gas bill. They said that the best way I can show gratitude is by not using credit cards again or it will feel like I have turned around and smacked them in the face so from now on I. Will. Not. Use. Credit. Again.

Got my lottery money and it was only £13 which is a bit poor considering all I have paid into it before now, but it paid for some painkillers for DH's toothache, plus some money for us to go out with tomorrow evening (footy presentation for eldest DS).

As you can see from my total I am under my grocery budget so far for the month and shouldn't need to go shopping tomorrow either. I am aiming for £220 divided between 31 days which is just over £7 per day. I'd like to come in at less than £220 and have some money to put to one side.

Still waiting for redundancy money though :( and still no letter from the dole people.

1 bid so far on the wii game with 5 watchers. No interest in the jeans though but it's still early days I guess. Will just re-list them if I don't sell.

    Good luck Mr Floozie! :D
  • Have had two shocks today....firstly can you believe I didn't even know how much 4 pints of milk cost. I thought it was about £1.20 so nearly dropped dead in Morrisons of shock when it was £1.65!!!

Also had a letter from the Tax Credits. I rang them last week to inform them of my change in circumstances and she gave me some flannel about getting an award letter based on 2008/2009...then I'd have to appeal against it based on 2009/2010....anyway my letter today says £97 per week as of tomorrow! I'm obviously not going to be entitled to that once DH starts working so I'm not going to touch it, and just keep it in a savings account (well, apart from the £10.52 per week that I am entitled to).

Got free cavity wall insulation done today! My local council came round a few weeks ago giving 100% grants to brick build houses, in which I live in one, so they came and did that today. Anything that will save on my energy bills is worth it. Dunno how long it will take to work though? When I get paid on Friday I am going to go and buy a concertina door for living room/kitchen as it's open plan at the moment and blooming freezing!.

Look at my grocery total, still underbudget for the month!!! Although I have eldest DS having friends round Friday and Saturday so I'll have to buy some extra food in, and I'm also running out of washing powder and condiments...

Dh still hasn't heard from the place where he was interviewed yesterday - why do they do it? Why can they never keep their promises?! Do they think people just forget about it when they walk out of the door?

He had to go and sign on today. He had his interview last Thursday and they said 12 days. He asked about when we could expect some money and they gave him a number to ring. He rang the number when he got home and they said it was going to be about 28 days! We're not destitute but I want what I am entitled to...a

  • WOOOOOHOOOOO! DH has been offered that job he was interviewed for on Wednesday. It's £15k to start with (which is the admin/1st line IT wage the previous person was on) but the reason they took so long to get back to DH was because the MD looked over his CV with a couple of other colleagues and have made suggestions about how they could utilise him, so the MD said it would be £15k to start with, then it could possibly be upped once his role is more established.

HOW RELIEVED AM I?!! You will not believe it. I'm so lucky and feel that I have been given a financial second chance and I am NOT going to forget this. So, the new me is going to be frugal and a proper MSE-er. No more buying sh1te and spoiling the kids and getting my buzz from spending money.

All being well I might even be able to establish some savings seeing how we don't have to break into too much of DH's redundancy (except to pay off a loan, and our Natwest Overdraft)

Thanks to everyone who has listened to me moan and be hysterical and for the best parents in the world xxx
