Shame there isn't a website for "Stop Stealth TV Tax", most people don't know every household in the UK pays something like £180 per year (or £75 for every man, woman and child) to cover the cost of TV adverts and hence fund ITV, Sky etc... This is irrespective of whether you have a TV or not and there's nothing you can do about it."One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a 'the rules don't apply to me' sort of thing." - Bill Bryson0 -
I bought my tv from John Lewis around February and didn't get asked this.
Think the member of staff might have been a bit flabergasted when I pulled £1000+ cash out my wallet LOLThis is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -
What annoys me is the TV Licencing advert "It's all in the database"
My ar4e.
Our TV licence is in my wife's name (We of course have the same surname). I bought a TV this year, using my credit card & giving my details.
Since then i've had threatening letters from the TV licencing people which i'm ignoring. Why they can't do a simple cross-check on their database to clearly see we live at the same address and that this address has a licence.
If they want to waste time & money sending me letters and send an inspector round for me to then produce our licence in my wife's name, i'm happy to do so.
"It's all in the database" is laughable.0 -
I'd give a fake address, personally. It's none of their business where I live. Lush always ask me to fill my address in on their 10% off vouchers, and Bravissimo always ask for my postcode. I say I don't want to give my address out.0

How is this a vent, its common practice for this to be done, argos aren't spying for the tv licensing,0

Sky is more expensive, but you do not have to purchase it. To watch Sky (Or Setanta for that) one has to pay Crapita the TV Tax.0 -

That has nothing to do with what the actual rant is about though0 -
LOL does it really matter?!0

At the end of the day, the purchase won't go through the till without a name and address. Whether you choose to give you real or fake details is up to you. I do find it rather amusing when a customer gives a fake postcode and house number and when I ask them to confirm the street they can't!
All the TV license place do is check the details against their data base and if the name given isn't listed as the license holder for the given address they will write a letter stating that Mr/Mrs Joe Bloggs doesn't appear to have a license for that address.
Argos don't use the information for any other purpose. There's no reason to be wary of giving out real details. Unless you don't have a license!0
