Royal Mail sorting office - get it sorted!

That reminded me of something else, what about when they put the parcel at your neighbours and don't leave a card? I find that so annoying- having a terraced house with no front or back garden I rarely see my neighbours, don't know them on either side, luckily they seem good folks and have often shown up with parcels I never knew existed but I certainly would not be any the wiser if they'd elected to keep them! When you're going through Hell, Keep going!

Hi
See my thread about PF, and them not leaving a card, took me nearly a month to find out where they had delivered it to. All other couriers manage do it, and even our Royal Mail office do, so why can't they?

That's to do with the way the mail is sorted now, and your house must be one of the last ones on the walk.
My OH is a postman. They are not allowed to leave the sorting office until 8.30am. Sometimes he's finished sorting before that, and just has to sit around drinking tea and stuff till 8.30am. Nobody can explain this rule and it drives him crackers, as he'd rather be out there delivering as soon as he's ready. Here I go again on my own....0 -

Slightly OT, but my mum paid a fortune for some flowers (from M&S) for her friend's Birthday. She was upset when her friend never 'phoned her to thank her. Eventually, she rang the friend and found out she had never received the flowers, but M&S claimed they were delivered. They eventually found the rotting bouquet in the shed at the bottom of the garden. No card had been left. Presumably the delivery person assumed this woman popped into her shed every evening after work.0 -

Our second post was cancelled about 10 years ago and the mail arrives at any time between 9.30am-1pm. I live in Greater London BTW, not in the middle of nowhere. I assumed the rest of the country was the same, it was only when everyone started banging on about the second post/late deliveries last year that I realised that this was not the case.
I don't understand the Royal Mail at all. Most of my posties are so nice and helpful, it's just the Royal Mail that is the problem! My last postie was absolutely brilliant. He knew all the houses and knew which people would be in/out. He knew which neighbours would sign for parcels. So, they went and moved him to another route for no reason. He said the bosses just changed people round and the posties all hated that because they had built up a knowledge of the houses on their route.0 -

We don't have 2nd post, our first post is usually about 11/12 or later on a Saturday! I live in Greater London / Surrey too... maybe it's just us?!0 -

The postman for our previous house was just superb like yours. He made sure that when our redirection wasn't set up straight away (5 working days my foot - more like 10!), he delivered it to our former next door neighbours - with their consent, obviously! He was apologetic when he couldn't do it on the first day as it was his mother's funeral - not his fault that the overall postal service is a pile of cr*p
In our new house, in a new area, I opened the door over Christmas to be faced with a postie calling me by my first name. Now, I appreciate that the parcels were addressed to "Miss VickyA" BUT I find that just downright rude. I didn't know him at all and even if I am young, I don't appreciate people being overly familiar when they've just met me. I sent a letter of complaint, but don't think that they took it seriously.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 declared0 -
Hate to mention this, but, you pay for next day delivery on 1st class mail, not before 12, so why does it matter what time your mail comes? As for cost etc. where else can you get a letter delivered, normally next day, and to any address in the british isles for less then 30p?? The royal mail has losts of problems, the biggest one being the government, but 99% of the front line staff get paid low wages but do an excellent job. It is with the senior management where the problems lie. An earlier post mentioned about the post office and the shambles they make of parcel delieveries, you can always use other couriers - there are plenty out there, but most are far more expensive then the RM. As for sending a cheque for £300 - Most people would spend the £1.60 odd to send it regiestered delivery, being cheap can cost you dear!!!0

I send all my cheques by 1st class normal post. I've sent them for MORE than that! And whether that cheque had been for £5.00 or £500.00 the same complaint would have been made. Over a week is ridiculous for first class post. The only difference is and the only significance of it being 300 is that I was willing to pay the cost of getting it stopped altogether whereas with it being less I would have been inclined to trust that it wouldn't get paid out being made out to who and what it was. When you're going through Hell, Keep going!
