Colleagues have informed me that the perfume is half price, as is the Christmas food (the specially packaged party food). Have asked my mum to try and grab me some cheap crackers. Shall report back on those later :)
  • I think all the stores, not just supermarkets, count on shoppers having short memories. I swear that last Christmas the deals were much better than this year.

I remember Sainsbury's doing 1litre of Bailey's for £8, their wines were cheaper a year ago. Meanwhile, there is a real hoo ha about Debenhams doing 20 per cent off. What's the big deal, they have a 70 per cent off sale several times throughout the year.

Woolies was a con, unless you were planning on buying kids clothes, the 50 per cent off barely registered on most items. Even ASDA have increased prices compared to last Christmas. Last year they had a particular bottle of Champagne on a 2 for £15 deal. This year the same bottle, on a deal, is £15 for one.

They all seem to be using smoke and mirrors to trick us into thinking the sales are great. They seem to have put up prices and then taken less of discount off compared to last year.

The only shop that seems to be a genuine bargain is Aldi.

Having said that, I went to a small off licence in West Croydon last night and found a great deal - 2 bottles of wine for £4.99.

When I check out the 'reduced' prices in supermarkets, they seem to be the same as the full price was last year. Bargain? Humph.

You know, when I go into shops and see people buying things I know are cheaper elsewhere it kills me not to tell them but I would feel like a right idiot so I don't bother. I've just gone around my school telling parents about this childrens tax credit for 2002/2003 that a lot of people are entitled to but are not aware of it, so far 3 people including myself have received over £1000. I like to see people getting what's owed to them and that includes getting bargains.
sorry bit off topic but can you tell me where to find out more?

  • Actually the late summer clearance sales (end of aug/sept) can provide even better bargains, online at least

yeah we know but living in the cold wet and windy wild end of wales, the winter sales are the ones to grab all those nice woolly jumpers from along with the wellies and trousers, not that good wearing summer dresses here!:D

[we dont get tans, we just look rusty!]

was going into tesco today to have a look, but went to morrisons instead, not much in there in the way of sales, but, got some of those throw in the microwave quarter pounders for a quid each, will try tesco tommorrow maybe.
I did notice their value bread has gone up again, was 35p then 37p then 45p down again to 40p a loaf then up to 45p wish i knew what was going on with tesco.

and also noticed these past couple of months they have not had thier value washing up liquid in either, the 13p bottle, the next one up was about 55p, they guy said they are doing the discounted brands now, as they work out cheaper than the value brands, i was going to go into one of my do you know what lectures, but Oh pulled me away!
nothing is impossible, just maybe difficult.
