Severn Trent Water bill (metered)

Options
My parent's water bill came in from ST, and it seems a bit higher than I thought it would be (based on my own experience with Thames Water)

The charge seems to be high for only 15m water

Does this look to be in order:

Bill date Nov (meter fitted in the spring 08)

Water supply Previous reading 8(M), Latest reading 23(M)

Volume 15.00 @ 122.01 = 18.30
Water SC = 11.37
Used water 15.00 @ 81.20 = 12.18
Used water SC = 5.82
Measured drainage Band 02 = 27.20

Total charges for period 74.87

They are being charged for surface water drainage(for a semi-detached house)

They probably should not be paying this, unless they don't have a soakaway.

Unfortunately the 'default' position for all water companies is that you pay this charge unless you claim relief.

Search for 'soakaway' or 'Surface water drainage' on this forum for loads of posts.

If they remove the charge they will backdate it to April 1st or whenever meter was fitted.
    The other charges are correct
  • For a five or six month bill it seems normal if not a little low for 2 people.

  • Just wondering if anyone could help me answer this question that I've posted on the sticky general questions thread from their own experience.

The Consumer Council for Water (CCWater) says that I should be able to negotiate my direct debit, and there may be a chance of getting a rebate, but has anyone else been in this type of situation with Severn Trent Water?
  • Well i beleve that direct debits can be alterd once they have run there cource so an 11 month plan can be reset by the water company once 11 months pass.
Of cource you can change your direct debit when you want to, just call and ask to pay what ever amount you want to just remember, if you do not have a water meter the payment plan should be set to cover the bill
if you do have a meter and set the plan too low you will get a bill when the payment plan finishes.
If you are unhappy with that agreement why not call STW and ask for a watercard or payment book plan and then set a standing order to coincide with the payments that way you have control of the payments.
Or put what you would be paying STW into you own account and pay the bills as and when they come.

  • That's very good advice, Headsabovewater, so thank you: but I'm not sure whether I can actually ask STW for a rebate of the overpayment, especially since I could do with the extra money right now (as could we all, I'm sure) :)
  • Well just to put your account inline provide STW with a meter reading and request a off cycle bill to the date of the reading.
This will bring the account and the balance on the account into line.
If there is still a credit request it back (Yes you can do this as long as a bill is not due to be issued within the next month or so) then reset your payment plan.
and remember when you call be nice it might be me your talking to :D

Headsabovewater - many thanks for that. I contacted STW and asked them what options there were for this credit and, if possible, could I have a refund. Guess what? They gave me the refund just before New Year.

    So, result! :) * a very happy MbW *
