Honestly - tell me how painful childbirth is!

Is the above not a contradiction
Whether during labour or after, surely I cannot be the only one who wanted to punch the midwife offering 2 paracetamol as a cure.
For after:
1) If paracetamol does not work (it is actually bad period pain), ask for something stronger
Wasnt just me then! When my ex husband phoned up in regard to the pain I was in the midwife said tell her to take a parecetemol (excuse spelling) to which I replied to flat out on the bathroom floor and I quote ' I dont have a f******G headache!'. Its not even the decent pain killers you can take, just the weak stuff you can only take when pregnant - total waste of time taking it!0 -
I got Ibruprofen and paracetomol.

I've been thinking about this.....and in all honestly I'd happily give birth rather than endure the sleepless nights.
Jeez I'm not being being positive OP! Pls don't worry about the birth bit :-)

Blimey thinking back the almost 14 years ago when i had DS, i was 2 weeks past my due date, valentines day was just about over and i was sooo unhappy, i had this huge lump, my bum felt like it was scraping the floor, and i needed to clean the spotless bathroom again because it was dirty!!!
i'd eaten half the huge box of chocolates the hubby had bought me for valentines day,
the day after i sulked some more watching tv scoffing the chocolates and feeling like a beached whale when i started to get belly ache and actually thought it was because i was stuffing myself with chocolates.
Spent all afternoon feeling slightly dodgy, and then in the evening mother called as usually to ask if anything was happening yet, i told her how i felt, aha so baby is on his way then. rang hospital who confirmed and suggested a good soak in bath.
Later that eve it was getting painfull (although i can't remeber the pain now) so i eventually go in, calling the parents who managed to get there within seconds of me.
spent an uncomfortable time walking up and down the corridor as i read that this was good to get the labour going.
this is the fun bit.....
i kept thinking i needed to poo, nurse got me on the bed and had a look and said no your ok, then i felt it again and i swear i did poo, nurse looked again and said no i hadn't, i asked are you sure becuase that felt like i just had (how embarrased was i), again she said no but thought that baby must be facing the wrong way round if i was getting the feeling of pooing. so midwife and docotor are poking and proding in the most delicate places and confirm that jnr to be was facing the wrong way and placed some probe on his head whist he was still in the birth canal.
by then i ask if my water pool is ready as i wanted a water birth, to be told no baby facing wrong way its an epidural and on the bed for you. which slowed everything down, so i managed to dose off to sleep for a few hours on and off whilst hubby in rocking chair looking scared, shocked and shattered, and grandparents pacing the room talking excidedly about my birth.
they went home about 3am and came back about 9ish, and i am still on the bed going nowhere, so they gave me something to speed things up and get the crocet needle out as my waters haden't popped by then.
I told the nurse would i feel the urge to push, she said no the epidural takes that feeling away, i said, oh ok so why do i feel i want to push something out down there.....
grandparents were kicked out of room and within 20 mins DS finally decided to make an entrance, with me growling at hubby for daring to mop my brow.
he took a good 26 hours to finally come out but i honestly can't remeber the pain, i know there was pain, but it was waves of pain and i really forgot about the pain within a few hours.Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -
I had an epidural with my first for medical reasons, not my choice.I would'nt advise that. With my 2nd and 3rd I did it naturally and it was to me the most wonderful experience. My husband was a great help and we virtually ignored the midwife till we needed her in the end.
I think the pain is something you just forget about,it's part of the process and because of that when you know everything is going along normally you just accept it.
An old lady told me when I was pregnant, she had had 9 at home wthout pain relief(or a midwife for a couple of the babies)just to concentrate on each pain and think of it as a task completed and one to cross off the list.I did this with my labours and it realy helped.
It's a bit like going to the dentist if your'e nervous you're terrified to open your'e mouth.Just remember we are designed to give birth,it's the most natural thing in the world and the pain is'nt going to kill you.
It's an experience you don't have very often,so savour it.0 -
i had pethidine with my first and didnt really like it as when i woke up i didnt really feel in control of my legs and felt really drowsy but from when it started hurting properly id say it took around 3 hrs to deliver my ds, unfortunatlet no one told me about stitches and it scared the c**p out of me when a midwife came towards me with a needle lol
second son i had gas and air and felt much more with it but labour again from when it really started hurting and not just niggly pains took around 3 and a half hrs, would of been shorter if the midwife had listened to me and just broke my waters lol.
i personally would stay at home as long as i could as that is where i feel more comfy especially in the bath as it eases the ache.
it is all over pretty quick and you do forget about it, and at the end of the day it is all worth whilenow proud mum to 3 handsome boys :j latest one born 10/10/11:j0 -
I think each case is individual. I had my first without any pain relief - and the worst bit was definitely the last minute, when you're being told to pant, then stop, then pant, then stop. My husband tells me that I swore at him quite badly, at that point, but I can't remember. But once baby appeared, the pain was replaced by the shock of seeing a little baby lying between my legs on the bed.
Then the doctor came to stitch me up, and asked me if I wanted a local anaesthetic - I told him that if I could handle the birth without any pain relief then I'd hardly notice a few stitches...0 -
I had read a lot about giving birth and wasn't keen on using pain relief but decided to keep an open mind. As it happened, labour came on so quickly I asked for pethidine which definitely took the pain away, in fact made it difficult for me to remember much between going to the delivery room and when DS came out!
I'm pregnant with baby two now and know I wouldn't want pethidine again but not sure what I would or wouldn't go for!0 -
All I can say is that after a few hours of pain,, youll have a lifetime of pure joy :j
Have you met the T.S. sprogs???How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
It's absolutely impossible to give a categorical answer to this question because it depends on so many different factors.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
