I'm a trainee teacher in the lifelong learning sector - and just won my first teaching contract woooooooooooooo hoooooooooo :j doing the happy dance lol .. its only for 2 hours a week and will last 7 weeks but its a foot in the door isnt it :)
What is it you are studying ?
I'm a single mum too - its flaming hard isnt it trying to juggle everything xx

its all about getting your foot in the door - well done u
im doing an open degree with the open university, its good because you don't have to stick to one subject, iv done sociology, psychology, understanding children, and this year its communication in health & social care. im working in a nursery on min wage at the mo but they've promised to put me through my nvq level 3 childcare, learning & dev so I dont mind the low wage - the nvq will mean i can go into family support work.
i think the thing with being a working/studying/mum is its hard to find time to relax, thats what i like about mse, its a real community and i dont feel so lonesome being able to come on here and have a chat:cool:

    count me in!

I'd like to get as much as possible into my savings this year to make a lump sum payment off my loan from my parents. mum has set up an online saver for me in her name (so i dont have access) so i'm sticking all my extra income in my savings acc and then transfering it once a month to her. also set up save the change with my lloyds acc today so if i forget to move money each week, it will at least round up each of my transactions for me. it all helps!

hello and welcome, you are #030:cool:
tell us more about the lloyds save the change, sounds interesting. do the banks set up 'virtual sealed pots' for us now??

With this scheme they round up each debit card purchase to the nearest pound, sweeping the rest into savings. So if you spend £1.27, they put £0.73 into savings.

    thank you :)
i started off as volunteer adult learner support in community classes and it just kinda went from there .. its the same organisation thats taken me on as a tutor (they promised they would if i got the qualifications but you never really know if they are going to until it happens do you lol)
i think it is worth being skint for a bit isnt it if you are aiming for something .. i have a little boy and am on IS & CTC and the work i've been doing while studying has either been placement (non paid) or pure voluntry work .. and it has been a struggle but i know that if i prove myself with this contract and carry on with the studies then i can get a higly paid job .. your plan sounds great too .. what kind of family support work are you planning on? a social worker, or something like a PSA? .. whatever you choose i am sure it will be rewarding xxx

EDIT: forgot the reason for being on this board in the first place .. I just transferred £2.95 lol xx

I think its more important to be there for our children when they are young, we can work on our careers a bit at the same time as being a mum studying or voluntary work, i worked with HomeStart as a volunteer which was excellent experience, i enjoyed it and it looks good on a cv;) . Im hoping to go down the social work route although I am a trained counsellor too, im hoping my income will double within a year (its really hard being on min wage!!), my nvq and degree will both finish within a couple of months of each other. you have hit the nail on the head with the word 'rewarding', if im going to do a fulltime job i need it to do more than just pay the bills. good luck to you too xxx

i am sending some cheques iv got from 'try me free' offers, to my 2nd virtual pot adding up to £6.82:D
