    But only because much of the British public are not too bright and equate a closing down sale with bargains like vultures round a carcass. But without pausing to consider whether what they're buying is actually a bargain.

    However the same thing applies, a closing down sale doesn't really work well as a long term strategy... ;)

    The Pine Shop in West End Lane had a closing down sale running for around 20 years, then one day without any further warning it really did close down. I suppose that you could say that they gave 20 years warning. Anyway, as a long term strategy, a closing down sale seemed to work pretty well for them.

    I agree though that the Woolies closing down sale is not going to last that long.

    I entirely agree. The real problem was that they didn't have enough depth in all the areas they covered, so you could never be sure of finding what you needed.
