What a shame, I had thought that at least some of it could be sold off.
Things must be pretty dire on the high street.--
Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.0 -
At the other end of the social spectrum, I look in the windows of Laura Ashley and think 'why?'0

Is Woolies considered to be for the proletariat then?.....0 -

People in Laura Ashley look down on people in Woolies
People in Woolies look down on poeple in Poundland

I like the concept of Woolies and in fact once worked for them but I think their delivery is poor. Having heard about their troubles and knowing there was a sale on I went down there last week. And then I went to Wilkinsons because they are cheaper for the same stuff and that was even with the Woolies sale on. The only thing I bought at Woolies was a new shredder and that was only because Wilkinson's don't sell them.
I actually find it pretty sad that they are closing. I like the company and if they sold things a bit cheaper then I'd have bought there more often. I think the trouble was they were trying to straddle two markets and were slightly too expensive to be a prole shop and slightly too downmarket to be a Laura Ashley-type shop.0 -
Good riddance, it was a waste of space...0

I only know of fairly small woolies locally, I went in to one to see what I would buy recently ib the event of such a sale, but they didn't have what I wanted, I think thy would in a bigger store, but of course th website is down.0

I've been led to believe that one of the problems Woolworths had as a store was that they thought their customers were a bunch of chavs or something whereas actually they were most lower middle class, hard working types.0 -
I won! Years of waiting and moaning have worked. Serves them right for cutting up my credit card because my S looked like an L in my signature. I've lost count of the number of people I have told this sorry tale too. Maybe it hepled their demise. Good riddance! :TThere is no tomorrow...0
