Skyfire , new Browser for Mobiles

  • Loads and installs great in my nokia n73.

BBC Iplayer thinks that I am NOT IN UK and will not show me anything.

    I am on the 3 Network :-(
  • I've used the beta version of skyfire every now and then on my E66 and it seems to be pretty good, if a bit slow at times. Nice to have flash support and audio but that's really dependent on your connection.

I am keen to see how firefox mobile on symbian turns out - opera mini just doesn't play nice on my phone for reasons I can't work out, and while the Nokia browser will do the basics, I wouldn't mind something that can render pages better and support wider media like flash.

Oddly, a message before the home page now says this:

Skyfire is unsupported for your region, and you may experience degraded service. Thank you for your patience while we work to expand our service.

    - which seems something of a step backwards, and rather peculiar considering this on their website "Right now, we're active in the US, Canada and UK",and their choice of bookmarks, including BBC, Sky, Guardian, Sun and Telegraph

edit: I tried using Skyfire to download the new version of Skyfire. Twice the progress indication reached about 140% then said it had failed. Twice it said it downloaded ok, but then did nothing at all, no check for permission to install, still the old version there. So I used Opera Mini to download it, worked fine first time, asked permission to install over the old one, etc. So I say again, Skyfire could try harder ...
