15/15 in 5min 4sec...but have to admit that my kids sat their 11+'s a few years ago...so I had a go at some familiarisation tests with them then. I'm sure it makes a big difference if you've done these types of questions before.
Interestingly, the LEA encourge parents not coach their children/ let them practise these types of questions before the exams. I've yet to meet anyone who took any notice of this advice....0

15/15 with 3:34 left on the clock. The last one slowed me down a little bit. I need some more coffee.I'm a bit annoyed with myself. I got 9 out of 15, all because I wasted so much time on the code breaker. I misunderstood the wording that "the codes are not in the same order as the words"
I assumed that meant that the codes corresponded to the above words, but the numbers were jumbled in order, so I spent ages trying to piece them together.
If it helps anyone, it's easy to get flustered with the apparent complexity of the problem but this one is actually trivially easy to work out once you spot the patterns in the variations.
If you recognise that the second letter of each coded word is either an A or an E (as opposed to the three possibilities for each of the other three code positions), then it's a pretty quick trial and error substitution to find out which is which. Try for example 5326 with 3 = A. This would mean that 2 is either L or S, which doesn't fit with the others. (6245 wouldn't match any other word.)
Once you realise that 3 = E, then you don't need to do any more. All you need to do is substitute E = 3 into the possible answers: STEEL can only be 45331 and TASTE can only be 52453.

Obviously posting just to show off - 15/15 and 3:30 left on the timer.
I think my 11 year would struggle - not because he's daft, but because they haven't been taught enough practical application to get to grips with questions like this. I might try it with him later. Thanks in advance,
