With an anniversary date circa the 10th December (?) ...... it's not worth putting a 13th payment in around 1st Dec 09...

Great info, Mikeyorks. I was wondering about this too as my 1st SO has just been credited to this acc. Will make sure my SO finishes on 1st Nov.

    Thanks :T

This is ideal for me as my A&L regular saver comes to an end this month. I was putting in £250 a month into that at 12%. I was also putting away £250 a month into a normal A&L eSaver.

It literally took 2 minutes to set up, and it was easy setting up a standing order for £500 through my A&L online banking as well.

    That was ridicuously easy.
    MFW 2015 - #88 £3,345 / £3,500
    MFW 2014 £2,990,MFW 2013 £7,905, MFW 2012 £12,216
    Opening Mortgage Balance (15th July 2010): £200,999
    Current Mortgage Balance(2nd July 2015): £150,999
    Total overpayments to date: £30,292.00

One per person. So if you have a significant other, use their entitlement!

If you have kids, try the Children's Regular Saver up to £100 a month.

If your not up to £500 a month on the 12% deal, increase your standing order!!

    Always a way!!

Cheers o4u, none of the above really apply though. Hoped it was a separate issue or something. Nevermind eh.
  • I've got several accounts with the Halifax, including 2 web savers and an ISA which all pay ridicuously low rates just now. Just wondered if I would be better withdrawing my money from the ISA (currently paying 3% I believe) and putting it into this account. I've only got £3000 (paid approx £1,000 into the ISA this year so far).

Am I correct in saying that you cannot withdraw any money from this account within a 12 month period, without incurring penalties that is?

But do watch to re-start it if you decide to run the RS for a 2nd year! ;)

  • I'm planning to open up one of these Halifax regular saver accounts later this month (around 22nd Dec). Do we know if the Halifax has any plans to reduce the interest rate on this account before then?

I don't think they will reduce the rate, but there's always a risk that they might.

You could always open the account now with £25 just to secure the rate, add up to £475 by standing order before the end of December and then increase the standing order to the maximum you want to pay in (up to £500) from January.

If I was to open the account today with £25 cash, and set up an SO for 28/12 would I get 7% rate ?

I've never put this to the test but was told this was not allowed and a second payment would be rejected.

Good advice. The terms and conditions (acrobat reader file) at

    http://www.halifax.co.uk/savings/forms/generic_sav_app/forms/pdfs/1_336203-7.pdf

say around page 3 "One payment each month by standing order from £25 up to £500". "One payment" seems clear to me.

I think they told me that also when I opened an account in branch.
