Last Friday, I received a car insurance renewal from my current insurer and it was £102 cheaper than my best quote so far.

I phoned them up because there was a mistake on the details they had written on the schedule, and they removed it, but called me back to inform me that I had a claim in 2006 and I was certain that I hadn't.
I was then told that my quotation would be affected. :(

I strongly disputed this and it turned out that I phoned my insurer in 2006 when someone cracked my wing mirror when they drove too close.
I was advised to get the culprit to pay for it without making a claim (since it was less than £100), which is what I did and that was the end of the matter.

I received a call today and the quotation remains unaffected, so my premium is £452. :j
My Virtual Sealed Pot has £421 today in it which will be covering most of the cost. :)

After treating myself to a digital SLR camera last week, I have to now find a camera case for it, so I can take it with me on holiday.
I used a £35 off discount code, via a cashback site £22 has tracked and I paid on my Tesco credit card (for Clubcard points).
I'll be selling the lens that came with the camera, and getting one more suited to my needs before the weekend.

The net mortgage balance will be below £65,000 (my target for 2010) by the end of the week when November's overpayments are made.

Glad to hear the car insurance premium wasn't effected in the end, what an annoyance though!
Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck :)

First Direct incentive for opening account prior to re-mortgage (£100) has been paid.
Quidco have paid £30.50 and I've just opened another Regular Saver account with First Direct which is paying 8% gross. :)

From November onwards, I'll pay a £200 less into the Cheshire and Saffron Regular Savers and make the full maximum payment of £300 into the First Direct account.
    Monthly overpayments will be £1300.

Phoned First Direct this morning and the mortgage currently stands at:- £71,985.92

I do miss the lack of online visibilty for our mortgage (which we had with Nationwide), but I am sure that I'll get used to it.
    I haven't. :(

We don't have a borrow-back facility with First Direct and we can get better savings rates elsewhere, so we have several Regular Savings accounts for the overpayments.
I am only listing savings accounts specifically set up for our mortgage overpayments.

Reg Savers / Oct / YTD

    Northern / = £250 / £1,630
    Northern / = £250 / £1,380
    Cheshire / = £200 / £1,200
    Cheshire / = £200 / £950
    Saffron / = £200 / £1,000
    FDirect / = £200 / £200

    Fixed Cash ISA = £2,000
    Total Overpayment Savings = £8,360.

    Direct Overpayments to mortgage account
    Month / Amount / YTD
    Nov/ £000 / £150

    Mortgage remaining
    = Mortgage - OP Savings = £71,985 - £8,360 = £63,625

We are now below the £65,000 target I set at the start of the year, which is good news. :j
I think that getting the OH on side a bit more has helped, and us continuing to realise cheaper ways to do the things we like (e.g travel, eat out).

After next month's payment, we could end the year with the mortgage nearly £20,000 lower than at the start of the year.
The best part is that it hasn't felt like a year spent living on bread and water (even with the changes/redundancies at OH's work).

The news of several newly MF members (on this forum) has really spurred us on.

I am tempted to change the target, but I am aware that next year may be different and a good year this year, may balance out a not so good one next year.

Roll on 2011 and I hope we can keep chipping away at this mortgage and in a few years from now post about how we became mortgage free (in the Roll Of Honour thread).

We had an amazing time and we certainly didn't stay for long enough.
The apartment we rented was amazing.

We plan to go back in in 2012.

Phoned First Direct this morning and the mortgage is:- £71,545.38.

Reg Savers / Dec / YTD

    Northern / = £250 / £1,880
    Northern / = £250 / £1,630
    Cheshire / = £200 / £1,400
    Cheshire / = £200 / £1,150
    Saffron / = £200 / £1,200
    FDirect / = £300 / £500

    Fixed Cash ISA = £2,000
    Total Overpayment Savings = £9,760.

    Direct Overpayments to mortgage account
    Month / Amount / YTD
    Dec/ £000 / £150

    Mortgage remaining
    = Mortgage - OP Savings = £71,545 - £9,760 = £61,785

Good year for overpaying, even though OH had bad news with the part of the company he works for being sold on and redundancies etc.

We've knocked just under £20,000 from the mortgage this year and still had 3 holidays. Can't wait to see what next year brings.

I'll spend the rest of this month eBaying the stuff that has accumulated over the last few months, then aim for a £1,600 overpayment in January.
  • We keep using you as our "hare" but you seem to be moving a little too quickly !!!!!

We will just have to get faster !

Well done on this year's progress - phenomenal
    RosieTiger - Highest £242,000 Feb 2004
    Lightbulb Dec 2008 £146,000 by March 2026:eek:

Sold £1,100 worth of stuff in the last 3 weeks on eBay.
I sold a netbook the other day for more than I paid for it 6 months ago. :)

Hoping to get it up to £1,500 by year end.

Quidco payment of £42.50 received earlier this week.

Joint and Personal Virtual Sealed Pots have nearly £100 in each of them already.
