The water bill arrived today (£80) and it was £63 less than the previous bill. :j

We used 12 cubic metres (12,000 litres) in the last 6 months.

The usage on the bill previous to this one was 43 cubic metres (43,000 litres).

We are on a water meter (no choice on the matter as it was a new-build).

When the previous bill arrived, told my OH that he was not allowed to spend 20+ minutes in the shower trying to wake up.
I changed the supplied shower head to an Ecocamel aerated shower head and bought a 4 minute timer, and told him that things were going to have to change.

Now and again, I catch him as he tries to sneak a 15 minute shower.
He doesn't do it often because he says that it isn't worth the earache.

We both shower daily and have baths twice a week each.
We have a dishwasher and washing machine.
Our cars get washed every 4-6 weeks.

I'll see if we can get the figure down even more over the next 6 months.

  • I am impressed!!! I think it may be a long time before I can work out and reduce my consumption to these amazing levels. In particular gas and water are a big challenge in our household!!

This just makes me realise what is possible....I have switched of the heating at the boiler (a few months late but hey...better late than never:rotfl:), we turned off the tap while brushing our teeth and decided it was too much effort to was the car this weekend.

Maybe one day I will be able to say I had a sub £100 bill (oh...not including the silly estimates I get 3 monthly only to be kicked into touch the following quarter:eek:)

He spent 15 minutes in the shower this morning.

I told him not to get used to it because we'll be back in the UK and back to 4 minutes next week.

Four minutes is tough for one shower, but to cover a whole week :eek::eek::eek:
Even with very little hair I think I exceed 4 mins but strangely have never felt the urge to time it at 0510 each morning...

....in fact in autumn and winter with heating not yet on or only 30mins in advance, it can be difficult to choose to turn off the red hot shower and get out into the cold air!
