If you still want a 3 night stay, the Grange Strathmore is available for a total of £230...

Having said that, would there be a problem with changing hotels on the second day to get the best deals available? You can still get great bargains on New Year's Eve and then take advantage of offers at nicer hotels on the remaining two nights.

I've stayed at various hotels from Canary Wharf to Kensington and Euston to Southwark, so anything within those boundaries is in easy reach of the city sights.
I agree with Dolphin Apartments getting favourable mentions too as they are one of the few complexs that have permanent residents.
  • Tower Bridge is still away out.

Try Arosofa Hotel on Gower Street which means you are a 5 minute walk from Oxford Street.

Also the Royal Adelphi Hotel on Villiers Street. This is 3 minutes from Trafalgar Sq and Leicester Sq is 5 minutes walk although not the most sexy of hotels location for price is unbeatable.

Check them out on Trip Advisor.

Also to see how far your planned hotel is from shops and sights use www.walkit.co.uk to plan your routes. You see more walking.

If staying at the Royal Adelphi Hotel just round the corner on Whitehall is a Wetherspoons right next to the Trafalgar Studios Theatre called something like "Half Moon on The Mall" for cheap eats and drink. If you get a window table at the rear you have a fabulous view right up The Mall towards Buck House.

To treat your girlfriend The Chesterfield Hotel Mayfair, on Charles Street does a delicious Devonshire cream tea for £12.95 per person. This will get you many brownie points after a morning shopping in Piccadilly. For location and atmosphere the cream tea is exceptional value.

Go to the half price ticket both in Leicester Sq to get your matinee/evening theatre ticket. You can get seats from £10 per person which is good value.
  • Also try www.londontown.com and select the with VAT option when you are given a list of hotel prices page. Remember their prices are per room not per person.

Typed in a requirement of 31st Dec to 2nd jan and the following were available.

Looking on the mid range hotels for location and price can recommend either the Holiday Inn regents park from £85 PRPN or the Radisson Edwardian Grafton from £98 PRPN. On the midrange secret tab the 4* hotel near Holborn probably is the Radisson Edwardian Covent Garden. This from £108 PRPN is good value. Follow Martin's hotel location tips to see if it is. If yes good posh 4*+ hotel right on the money.

Ok does anyone think that the travelodge Tower Bridge is alrite? As its pretty cheap for the 31st&1st. Only like 115quid! Which i thinks pretty good!

Totally forgot about this at the time, but the Travelodge Tower Bridge started life as a Purple Hotel, so it's a bit above the usual standard of a Travelkodge. Travelodge have made a few key aquisitions this year including a few Purple hotels and some of the menzies chain, plus expanding into Spain. Still a nightmare to deal with but the general standard of these new additions is decent.

I would always recommend staying just south of Victoria, in Pimlico. If the Dolphin looks good and is recommended, go for it. It's a lovely local area with nice shops and great restaurants, but it actually feels like a community rather than a transient city. I stay there for work a lot, though not in the lusher places. From this area, you would be surprised how far you're able to walk without much bother. I regularly go for a stroll from there, across St James park, through the Mall and to the Charing Cross bookshops. London is a stunning city so walk as much as you can rather than being gopher like with the underground.
  • if you're in London, our 2 restaurants both have 50% off food from the 28th December. see www.grillerestaurants.com
