Cheap London trip! Need help :)

I was looking for some help with a little trip i want to plan for me and my girlfriend. I have decided to take her there and give her spending money for a Christmas present.
I have managed to get pretty cheap train tickets of 54.10 for both of us on the 1st Jan and return 2nd Jan.
I just need help with hotels as i don't know London very well at all!
I have found this hotel:
K West hotel & spa for only 98.00 with a king sized bed! I was wondering is this close to most attractions? And ho much would the Underground tickets cost to go around these areas.
Or if anyone could find a better hotel, in a better location or cheaper price. But it needs to be a nice hotel
haha
Thanks for your help
EDIT: Or i could go on the 31st perhapes? But wont most of the shops be closed on the 1st? Because that would be awsome!

It's a fair way from central London. Check tfl website for tube prices.
Hilton Tower Bridge, nice hotel, next to Tower Bridge, near Tower of London, South Bank etc has a room for £86 with breakfast.0 -
Thanks for the help Annie. Shops where i am are closed

The K West is gorgeous! It's only in Kensington too so you can easily reach all the attractions on the Circle & District underground line.
Laterooms is showing the following availability...
The Kingsway Hall Hotel at Covent Garden is available for £99
http://www.kingswayhall.co.uk/
The Grange Holborn is £94 and also a short walk from Covent Garden

The Strand Palace hotel is £89 and whilst it isn't the best hotel in the World (though it is adequate by most people's standards) it has one of the most enviable locations in London, almost directly opposite the Savoy, it backs onto Covent Garden and is literally yards away from Trafalgar Square.

And Londontown is showing to following rates which are excluding tax...
Park Plaza Riverbank for £64. Stunning hotel and very popular with business clients who need a central location.

The City Inn Westminster for £69 is an amazing rate! The place is very modern and lush.

The Holiday Inn Mayfair is £86

The Crowne Plaza London St. James is usually out of most people budgets but is available for £90

Those are the best central hotel offers I can see right now but I do like the K West too.0 -
Try Laterooms for the Dolphin House Hotel in Pimlico - I can't praise this place enough - look at the reviews on there for pics and info ( and no I'm a newbie not an affiliate!!)
I normally get a room rate of about £89, Although I'm roughing it slightly on my next trip -at the travelodge tower bride £52. Not plush but for one night not what the hec! x 0
