My only reassurance was that at coffee time (i think lecturers have a share in costa - they make lectures so mind numbing you have no option to stock up on large americano's with extra shots of expresso at £2.50 a go!) everyone else said the same!!!! (all execpt the class geek who was fully versed on Foucoult and post-modern dicourse analysis and social construct!)

But that's the point. You read it and life becomes long. Very very long...

possibly - it could be the one meant to get rid of upstart nurses who think they need educating (me!) - stick them all in a class - pretend it's for professional developement purposes and bore them to death on Foulcoult! It will save the NHS a pretty penny!

judi you made me laugh saying about Foucoult. Twenty years ago I was doing a social work degree and we had a stats course that had him in it. It is the only time when I have parroted a seminar paper with no understanding of what i was saying.

My tutor stopped me after a bit, and said did I understand it, and I said nope haven't a clue.

What was really funny was the class tutor didn't understand it either. Talk about the blind leading the blind

I have missed why you are doing this particular course. But don't forget that any credits you get for it, can be transferred to another course if this is really not for you. So it might be worth trying to stay on to complete the year. Just to keep the credits...?

However in their defence a 'chatty' writing style would not be considered appropriate, and the referencing 'stuff' you mentioned is to protect you from charges of plagiarism, so if you haven't done it, then it would have been marked down.

I know from Open University courses, that referencing correctly can net you 2 or 3 marks. Which if your paper is borderline can be the difference between a pass and a fail.

The key is to think if I was writing a report for a CEO of a company, how formal would it be? Well that is the level of formality of writing an essay should have, in my opinion.

Hope you don't mind me pointing this out

no chev i have no probs with that at all ...i have to admit i am anal about the plagerism stuff i really dont ever want to be in the position ...so when i have any quote at all i put it in the brackets it's the whole apa system i just dont get ....and the chatty i honestly think comes from my giving the example if the class having discussed the subject several times and still being non the wiser ..( i think a tutor mightve seen that as a dig at their teaching methods ...moi ..never)

ahh foucoult ...judi are you by any chance in my class ...did you get to play with duplo bricks?....were doing foucoult and freire i kinda get it ...well not exactly get it completely but a wee bit i do understand ....

well today was my first day of my elective ...i purposefully chose to get out of the dept i am in and study something else so i am doing the drugs one i mentioned previously .....now apart from the two tutors which i can honestly say are amazing (yes i had one great class last term) i feel as if i have had my first ever real day at uni ...i loved it ...we learned all about the heart drugs heat attacks strokes etc etc ...brilliant stuff ...cant wait for fridays class now

Well done on the car insurance. That's a great saving.
You'll never believe the survey I did on lightspeed earlier!!!!...it was about cars and fuel...some of the questions were if this car was a person..blah balh blah..what sort of a person would it be..!!!!!! is that about!!!..the whole worlds gone mad..the stupidest survey I've ever seen and it asked about 30 questions like that..
It can't be a person in any shape or form it's a car..lol
