Recording a phone call

  • Fair enough, there's some legal implications, but what's the real problem?

I wouldn't care so much if anyone recorded what i said - i don't say anything that interesting anyway. Have you said something you shouldn't have - that's why you're worried?

What do you think this person might do with your recorded voice?

Not spoke to him about it he didnt seem to bother when he knew, he would probably think iam overreacting but he would probably sort it out, i dont want to make a situation worse with the boss and employee.
Trying to sort it myself as its freaky to me

    Hi.

I personally would speak to your boss about it, he might well be using it as a disciplinary and anything you do might jeopardise it. He is really in the best position and might be 'not bothered' for other reasons.

What is it you want from this? Do you think that taking it to the police would result in anything positive happening - if they went to see him you could make an annoying situation into a really unbearable one.

Just be careful what you do, creepy men can be completely harmless - but they can be completely mentalist and taking offence to you might not be what you really need.

Did you say anything that COULD be used against you? If not, seriously, call his bluff by saying 'whatever' back to him, and ask him to make any further enquiries by email to you and you will answer them appropriately.
  • It's especially easy to record a call if you ring from a mobile phone. I know mine has a setting you can activate during the call.. it may not be an idle threat

I have defo not said anything untoward or anything to worry about, I dont know what it is, in my mind the guy is creapy and a bit over the top and it was the way he said he recorded the conversation, I just feel for the want of a better word Dirty

    Hi.

Nothing you say will make him get rid; all that will do is confirm that you are freaked out, which is what probably gives him the pleasure.

You are not allowed to record a call, if neither party is aware the call is being recorded (phone tapping for example).

If one party is aware the call is being recorded, they do not need to inform the other party if it for their own use.

If you intend to share the recorded call with a third party and have not informed the other participant, you could be on the receiving end of a civil prosecution.

    Nickmack Thanks for reply
Are you saying because he knew he was recording then thats ok?
And because he came in the office and told us he recorded it, does that mean he has informed me? could he share with a third party now?
It was only later on I remembered that I would be on it
    Just for clarification

You can't make him delete, if it's only for his own use. If he plays it or makes available to a third party, you can take action.

  • when I tried this ages ago I am sure my phone only recorded my voice for some reason, but I take it there are phones out there that can record the whole conversation.

At my old work customer used to threaten that they had recorded it, but I very much doubt they did as not once did I ever see it used.
