Toniq - crossing everything so much so I have cramp....:rotfl: .
TMK - we had similar dilemma with DD1 - the school with the 'better' reputation would have meant driving her to the school, dropping her off and driving back like a loon to get DD2 to primary in time, and added stressing if my sister was late dropping her child off to me before she went to work. The school with the 'not so good' reputation is easy walking distance from home.
DD1 is thriving at the nearer school - as she is now deemed sensible enough to walk herself to and from school, she also has her own doorkey, and goes shopping/cinema with her friends occasionally. She has always been 'mature' emotionally and has had no difficulty in making lots of new friends - although with Christmas coming up sometimes I wish she didn't have so many.....:rotfl: . I'd far rather my child was happy at school (and described as 'cause of delight':D in a letter home) than miserable and stressed at a 'better' school - if your child is capable and willing to learn it won't make that much difference in the long run.

DS1 & DS2 went to a high school waaaaaaaaaaaaaay over the other side of Livingston coz it was a better school no-one from our old neighbourhood went there. Someday I'll bore you all with the horrid story of my last home and the real neighbours from hell. Anyhoo, her catchment high school is round the corner from us here. And some of our old neighbours will be going to that school and already go there no doubt as its their catchment school too. Dilemma - do I send her to the same school as her big brother DS2 (DS1 has left there now) where none of her friends will be going to, or do I send her to the local school, not as good as her brother's but all her mates will be there? If I send her there, I'll probably send the rest there too when their time comes. Its also dead handy and she can walk there and back and come home for lunch. I've given her the option and said I'll do whatever she wants, but is this a cop-out?
What do you guys think?
I was the only one of my friends who passed to Grammar school and begged my mother to let me got to the local Comprehensive but she stuck by her guns and did what she did what she thought was best by sending me to Grammar school. I made new friends easily enough but they were all out of my area so in the evenings, I didn't socialise at all because my new friends were too far away and I felt like an outsider with my old ones as there weren't many experiences we had in common anymore. The added complication of being in an all girls school, led me to lead such secluded teenage years, I still feel sad today that I missed out on so much and although I don't resent my mother (I knew she did what she thought was best), I wish that she'd made different choices for me.
As a result, I vowed that I'd let my children choose for themselves which school they wanted to go to ... and ironically, my youngest has just chosen the best school in our area (requiring us to attend church for a year!) even though I felt he might be happier at the local boys school.:rotfl:

Thanks very much everyone for your advice. I must admit to feeling I should choose the better school. But tj you've reminded me of another problem which DS2 has which is the socialising outside school, he doesn't
He has a couple of mates from round here and they tend just to go to each others houses (mainly mine ). If I put Rhiannon through that, well you know what girls are like and socialising is the biggest part of their lives atm. Oh fudge!!!

arrrghhh, tmk I so don't envy you hun. Can you apply to both and make the decision later down the line? It might even be made for you if you only get offered a place at one of the two? Or does it not work that way there? Thanks to all posters and contributers :beer:0

I wish it did work that way. Here you have a catchment school which you have to have a really good reason for not wanting to send your kids to. You can choose up to 3 schools, in order of preference but they expect you to put your catchment school as number 1. So far I haven't even included it in the three I choose for my eldest two. My eldest got into the good school because the ed auth lost his application and granted my choice coz I kicked up a stink. Next son got in coz his big brother was there. So I would have to put the good school as choice number 1 and two schools miles and miles away as 2 and 3 itms coz if her catchment school was any of the 3 that's where she would be placed itms. fudge, fudge, fudge :rotfl:
