Got a mega decision to make today. DD1 is going to high school in August and her forms need to be completed NOW!! DS1 & DS2 went to a high school waaaaaaaaaaaaaay over the other side of Livingston coz it was a better school no-one from our old neighbourhood went there. Someday I'll bore you all with the horrid story of my last home and the real neighbours from hell. Anyhoo, her catchment high school is round the corner from us here. And some of our old neighbours will be going to that school and already go there no doubt as its their catchment school too. Dilemma - do I send her to the same school as her big brother DS2 (DS1 has left there now) where none of her friends will be going to, or do I send her to the local school, not as good as her brother's but all her mates will be there? If I send her there, I'll probably send the rest there too when their time comes. Its also dead handy and she can walk there and back and come home for lunch. I've given her the option and said I'll do whatever she wants, but is this a cop-out?
What do you guys think?0 -
Hi everyone. Not much comping time today as doing a birthday tea for OH's son, 6 today, and was at church this morning. Telling myself keeping busy is good for me but I feel a traitor carrying on without LO. It was bleak turning out presents for DSS from our family hidey hole as it was stuffed with gifts waiting to be wrapped for my baby and it broke my heart terribly.
TMK, I had the same dilemma with my eldest and opted to rule out the 'better' school in favour of the nearest. Went through all your thought processes, but I know for sure my DD now in her second year there would absolutely agree with the choice we made. Of course it has it's ups and downs, and there are some rough kids there, but it is learning about life as much as anything and we can't protect them forever. Hopefully your child will learn lessons in a protected environment if she has to deal with these old neighbours which will equip her for the future when we all cross paths with some who take out their anxieties on us. Trust your instincts, listen to your daughter and I know you will make the right decision. You are clearly a good mum who cares about her kids, and that's most important. But there are dreams that cannot be,and there are storms we cannot weather!0 -

TMK - I was the eldest child and mum thought she was doing best for me to put me in the better school, yep further away but fantastic reputation.....I hated it - and was too shattered by the time I got home for homework etc, so lagged behind, but I put up with it.
Brother went to same school - he left and went to local, 'not quite the best' school, he was 100% happier there. Younger bro had already started there before 1st one left - like me he stuck it.
3 younger brothers & sisters didn't go - they stayed within more local schools and were a lot happier.
Everyone has differing opinions but you know your dd I'm sure you'll do what is best for her
