Prices of Bus Journey
Hiya all,
I know this will be a rather broad question,
But I get the bus every Friday to work and it costs me £2 there and £2 back, and I only travel 4 miles.
I have seen people get on the bus and say £1 and it takes them to the same place as me!
Does anyone have any idea how I could cut down this cost / ways I could make my journey cheaper??
Thanks in advance,
Cup_Cake

Perhaps you could get a weekly ticket? Your bus fare is cheap to me, but than it's really costly where I am.The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0

I only get on the bus on a Friday so it would be a waste to get a weekly ticket.
That's quite expensive over here, but I guess that's the price i'll have to pay ey.

Ah I see what you mean. When I was in my old job I had to travel to work by bus and it was £4.70 for a return or £17 for a weekly, so obviously the weekly was the better deal. As I'm not from a big town (at the time I was about 7 miles from it, now further away) I couldn't use the other deals, like the nearest big towns Megarider etc.The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0

How much is a day ticket? where are you?0

Find out what the people who get the £1 ticket are actually doing. Are they cheating, or are they getting a valid discount? If so are you eligible for it?
But unless you give the precise journey - or at least the bus company and general area - there's no way of answering you properly. Fares and discounts vary in different parts of the country and with different companies. There really is no universal rule.0 -
Ask one of the folk who pay £1 what the deal is?0

Everywhere has different offers, even when served by the same transport group (e.g. Arriva offers in Northumbria are different to those in West Yorkshire). Your local council, PTE, or even your employer may also offer a ticket that saves you money based on your location, age, employment or student status. "Overriding" (i.e. paying less than the correct fare to your destination) is illegal and, if caught, you could be given a Penalty/Standard Fare or prosecuted.
Whereabouts in the country are you, and what operator runs your service? With this information, a discount may be available!#145 Save £12k in 2016 Challenge: £12,062.62/£12,000.00 Beginning Balance: £5,027.78 CHALLENGE MET

whereabout are you ? In Greater London you can get an oyster card and the fares are half price0

I second the advice to ask one of the people paying £1 and see what they say.
But at the very least asking for a return on your outward journey will save you money - all bus companies offer them even if they don't advertise it very much.0 -
Thanks for everyone's advice, I will ask someone and see if it will help.
I'm in Leeds so no Oyster card for me I don't think.
